Hey friends In many schools and colleges there are various systems of rating a student. How do they do it in your college or school? In my school we had percentages which i think was way better than grades. But now we are having grades. Which do you prefer and why? Can you also explain the advantages and disadvantages of the same?

I prefer both because if we score less percentage and have high grades than it is no used now they were looking though percentage what was the qualification and also if we have high score percentage and low grades, we will facing problem as it is reflected in our character certificate that we don't have good behaviors or characters .

I don't know what it is like otherwise, but where I currently attend college, we get both a percentage and then the grade. For example, 93 percent would be an A. We get both the percentage and the grade. I can really take it either way. Percentages are fine if there is a guide of how they break down. It really does not matter in the end exactly how far they break down. I do really only look at the grades though. Grades are what most look at to begin with I think as well. However, having both is a good thing. You can see exactly how far or close you can from getting the grade. For example, if you are currently getting a 88.5 percent or something like that, you would be able to figure out what is needed to raise that grade up to the percentage that would lead to an A. I will say that however, the teachers that used fractions for grades when I was in school really annoyed me. Of course, it is very easy to figure out the percentages, but it forces me to do math, so it is not good.

For the grades, it's a lot simpler since you just have (probably) five different levels: A, B, C, D, and F (maybe E in your school). If the grade reach a certain standard then assigning it a letter is simple and straightforward. For percentage though. It's a whole different ball game. The percentage means that the system needs to be decide how many percent is an A, how many percent is a B, etc. In my old school 94% is an A, 84% is a B. After assigning the appropriate percentage level, then comes the grading. Say if the paper is out of 65 points, how do you assign the points. That means you have to really look at the work and assign the appropriate points. Of course some teachers just look at it and give it points they think is fit. Then for a large part, we have Grade Point Average (GPA), most common is on a 4.0 scale. It's what a lot of colleges look at when they decide whether to accept you or not.

Percentage would give a whole lot meaning to people who score good. I mean a guy can get 98% and he gets A grade while even a guy who gets 91% will get the same grade.

When it comes down to the final GPA though. As long as that 91% guy able to maintain that A, he will get a 4.0 along with the 98%. Percentage wise, you can use it as a better self-measurement than grade generally would.

I will support grades as well as percentage because grades and percentage two are very important in our day to day life. You know that last year my brother got 78 percentage and he was qualified for further study but at last when they look at his grade he has the worse grade and he was not selected because his character certificate is totally effected.I think both are important.

I would prefer percentage because in our school life percentage is more important than grades. If we apply for job they wont look for grade they usually look for percentage and they will select for the job.The person who had high percentage will got job first-er comparing to low percentage and they can stand for their own feet no need to depend to others. The person who do not have percentage will roaming here and their for searching job,if their is job vacancy he/she will apply but those who had percentage will get selected and he/she who do not have will not percentage will not get chance and he/she will naturally feel upset.I think percentage is more important than grade.
