What are the best ways/sites to advertise?

I have been a member of a few affiliate marketing sites for quite a while now but have never done anything with them...I am wanting to give these a go in hope that I can earn a little extra cash with them. How would you recommend advertising the products? What works best for you? Which advertising/classified sites are best too? Please no referral links as I do not wish this discussion to be deleted.
