I had been afraid of water ever since i was young. When i was small i used to be scared of a bucket and the water inside it. Now i am older and wiser and even though i know swimming i am afraid of circular tanks and swimming pools. They make my head spin. I have also got the fear of heights and i become dizzy when i see from such a great height. I believe i have hydrophobia. What about you? Any phobias you got? Please share.

There is one phobia that has plagued me for the whole of my life and that is Arachnaphobia! I have a tremendous fear of spiders and whenever I see one I make it my goal to get rid of it as quickly as possible! I try to avoid killing it if I can help it as this is cruel! A spider shouldn't be killed simply for being a spider! Before I retire to bed each night I always have a good search around the bed and under the pillow to make share there's no hidden spider there! I really don't know why I have this fear but I guess it's the way they look and crawl! Having eight legs really doesn't help! Why couldn't they be created with just two? I also have a fear of heights myself and it's ironic that I actually would love to learn how to fly! I have never thought about doing anything as regards healing myself from these phobias, I don't see the point. Still, as long as I'm living my life and these two phobias don't get in the way then I'm one happy bunny! Andrew

Well I have a phobia of very great heights. I cant hang out from the terrace of very high building or towers. I just cant look at the ground from there as I start feeling like falling off from there. Well i am just surprise how come you learned swimming when you have a phobia with water?? Anyways thanks for starting this discussion. Take care :)

Hi raviteja_ravi! I grow up thinking what's wrong with me. I can swim too. But honestly I'm afraid of water too just like you. The moment I'm in water in a pool or at sea my mind would wonder. What if something from below would just grab me down...

Like everyone else, I have a little fear with heights. I guess it's natural for humans to fear heights. Every one of us experienced falling down, w/c made us scared of gravity. Anyway, I'm also a little claustrophobic. I don't like being inside enclosed spaces and being around a lot of people. I say I have a little of those because I only have a mild phobia. Not really scared. More of uncomfortable. Also, I manage to control it so whenever i feel a little scared or uncomfortable, I think of something else, or stand close to a friend

When I was a clild, I was horribly afraid of the dark. My older sister knew this, and she used to make me walk down the long hallway to the bathroom without lights. I was petrified. I got over it, and now I walk around in the dark all the time.

We were vacationing in a city up in a mountain when I was little for a weekend. The kids and the nannies went out for a walk and I went with them. The fog started to crawl alongside us and I started to panic. In the last leg of getting to our destination, I could see the fog hit the sides of the mountains and this scared me a little bit. The idea of being surrounded by clouds and not seeing anyone scared me but it was when we went out walking outdoors with the fog yards from me that made me panic. I was crying and screaming. Some 25 years later, I still can't look up at the sky directly and feel my back tingle. I'll have to look through a window or grab tight onto someone or just run for cover. A good head on my shoulders enables me to joke about it, and every so often, friends draw a picture of a cloud eating me to make me laugh. I've embraced this phobia and I'm thankful that I don't get seizures or anything.

I don't have any known phobias but I have created a new phobia called ratophobia. I am terribly scared of rats. So much scared that even the thought of it makes me uncomfortable. If I see a rat I want be able to walk over that place and I get so disgusted I can't eat anything the whole day.
