Try to relax, don't stress yourself too much, drink milk in the morning and before going to bed instead of coffee. Listen to love songs until you fall asleep. Those are some tips, maybe it will work for you.

in severe cases it is considered a medical illness. a normal person should have up to eight hours of sleep, and two is considerably less than that. There are several etiologies for insomnia, and I suggest that you visit a doctor to find out.

Here are some tips that I have learned to improve sleeping: 1.) Exercise in the morning or afternoon. This will help your body feel tired when it's time to go to sleep. But never do this too close to sleep time, it might make you feel more alert. 2.) Don't eat too much when you are about to sleep. Since the body will be concentrated to digest the food than make you go to sleep. 3.) Try to drink milk before going to bed. 4.) Make your room as dark and as quiet as possible before going to bed. 5.) When you find yourself tossing and turning for more than 30 minutes, get up and take a walk. 6.) Read a book before going to sleep. If all else fails, maybe you need to seek some professional advice. Hope this can help! :)

The advice the other respondents have given you all seem sound and may be effective for some. But after trying the many remedies without results, perhaps you need to look at the problem differently. Perhaps you need to find out why your not sleeping so that you can deal with the problem. Since sleep is a state of subconsciousness, the cause may be buried in the subconscious mind. Some experts and i don't want to mention the names for fear of being deleted, argue that defense mechanisms like regression or supression can affect our normal sleep cycle since it is harder to control these defense mechanisms during sleep.
