I have always loved reading and finally I even have the time to do so, as we are setting off on a two week family holiday. I am totally at a loss however as to what books I should take with me. I generally prefer serious literature to pulp fiction, but Tolstoy just somehow doesn't go with a noisy beach and sunscreen patches. So I'm waiting for some good tips, what are your favorite novels to read on holiday? Do you happen to know any good mafia themed books?

Oh, I have seen that film, it indeed is a good story. But so very shocking. Actually I have been so shocked by that movie that couldn't even think properly about its message at first. Had to go back to it a few days later.

I'm haven't read much mafia themed books. But one of my favorite novel is Mila 18. It is about the German invasion of Poland focusing on the abuse and obliteration of the Jewish community. If you've seen Shindler's List, Mila 18 also tells of extermination camps and ghettos. The difference with Mila 18 is that it highlighted the bravery of the Jewish fighters and their will to survive.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check that book out. Maybe not on the beach, but I feel like reading it. You can always learn so much from these stories... and can start to value your own safety and comfort, right?
