In America our movies usually center around epic stories and huge special effects. Crude humor and over the top plots generally characterize our movies. We also have tons of action movies with giant fires and huge disasters (2012, The Dark Knight). But I know many myLotters are not from America. In your respective countries, what are movies known for?

I am form Chile. We see all american movies, plus some spanish movies, french, german, danish, etc. I dpn´t agree with you about your movies. Even though you do produce many movies that are made for mass watching and must have the type of plot that most people like, there are many american movies that are not light or just action. The humor in Forrest Gump or the pathos of Million dollar baby go way beyond special efects, action or the kind of movies one would call a "thriller".

Yes hollywood produces a wide array of movies but I was just saying that America is known for action movies. We have movies of all genres but what sets us apart from other movies are the action and things like that.

In the Philippines, we have mostly slapstick comedy and the never-ending cliche'd drama movies about some rich guy and some poor girl or vice versa. It's nice to see some change once in a while with them indie movies.

I am from America, but lately I have been watching a lot of Asian movies. Everything from romance, action and horror. I have reallly enjoyed watching them and it is a nice change of pace from American movies. I have also noticed that quite a few American movies are remakes of Asian movies!

I am from Bulgaria. I like watching Bulgarian movies (but only the new ones). They are good because we have amazing actors. I know lots of Bulgarians who doesn't like our native movies just because they are native. One of the reasons I like Bulgarian movies is that you only hear one language. I know that it is suppose to be that way for the other movies too but unfortunately our dubbing studios use voice-over to dub the movies and you can hear both the original and the translated versions and this I don't like. Although there are some (a few) movies that are dubbed with synchtonized voices. I am a big fan of them.
