I've just encountered a guy selling a second hand Laptop. I wanted it because everyone has it already except me, I only got a desktop my whole life. Anyway here's what happened, I called him over the phone and we talked about the price. The original price when he bought it from the store last month was $870 and we agreed that I will just pay him $600 for it. When we met at the restaurant he said that the price is $680 because of the taxi fair. He wants me to pay for his taxi fair, is that right? He also sounded and acted very unprofessional. I ended up not buying his laptop, I will just buy a brand new one from the store.

you're right! we shouldn't trust that kind of person. he is really a bad seller and we're not sure that the laptop he sell doesn't have a good quality. You got the right decision!

i've had a person do something similar. I was selling him something for $50 and when he came he said he only had $40. I told him it was $50 and he already knew that. I told him there was an atm at the wal mart around the corner, he said he would go get more money but he never came back, i didn't expect him to either. this man was just trying to get more money out of you by putting you on the spot and hoping you wanted the laptop bad enough that you would pay the extra $80. You did good by not buying it from him.

If I were you, I would cancel this deal, too. Because this seller should let you know earlier about the taxi charge. This is just like raising the price suddenly. It is not reasonable and unfair. Besides, USD80 is expensive for the taxi charge. I love China

That is terrible. The guy should have told you that there was a fee for delivery. Since he did not walking away was the best thing to do. Just keep looking, you may find a laptop cheaper. I got mine in 2007 on Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) for under $600.00. Having a laptop is great and it allows you to take it anywhere.

he should have made it clear that you would have to pay for his fair before the meet-up. but $80 for a cab ride? that's too much.

Maybe you should charge him $100, $80 for YOUR taxi and $20 for disappointment. He should have stated that first over the phone.

IF the deal didn't include delivery or transportation fee then it should be free. He should have made it clear to you that he was gonna charge you for that. So what you did was just right. Are you sure it's $80 not php 80? Because $80 = php 3,600 It is impossible to charge that high for a taxi. =)
