You generally get a decent salary in any job related to science - scientist, lab technitian, researcher, doctor, the list is endless - there should be no problem earning decent money from a scientific background...

I know hHlium wants professional writers, you could start writing for them and you could write about topics that are on the website or start topics for fields that you have knowledge in. If you are very good at writing you could see if there are any offers in the Helium Marketplace for companies that are looking for articles for scientific magazines or websites.
