I have been working with odesk for more than 2 years now and employers vary. My first employer there was nice but he always loose track of time. He loves discussing about his plans for his company and often held a conference call right before you log out of work and detain you online for hours. My last employer was very nice and easy to work with. After that I took a new job and finally decided to not continue with it because she's too demanding. It seems that she expect me to check my email every hour which I cannot do. I will only work part time for her so I cannot do everything she ask instantly. So there here's some of the kind of employer that I've come across while working with odesk. Hope this helps.

I already have an account at oDesk, but I'm not yet ready to offer my services. I'm thinking of getting writing gigs because it seems easier to do. But I do have programming skills that I may offer there in the future. Anyway, if you have plenty of time in your hands, better just take the plunge and offer what you can and see whatever projects you can get. If ever there are experienced oDesk jobbers here, it will still be difficult for them to provide you with very specific information you need since situations will surely vary from project to project and may not apply. So, consider your first project as a learning experience and just enjoy the opportunity. Think serendipity.

I have tried odesk before. I also registered but its too complicated. Its also more complicated than applying for a job in a company. You have to take tests and all sorts of qualification stuff. The employers are reliable but i wish they could make it easier.
