First day of work

Philippines

I'm a fresh graduate from college. I just graduated last April and I have been searching for a job for almost three months now. Just this afternoon, I was called by one of the companies that I was applying saying that I got accepted and will start this Monday already. I'm so happy! Finally, my job searching has paid off. It's really hard to find a job these days so I'm really grateful for this blessing. It's gonna be my first job in the "real world" so I'm really excited and a little nervous at the same time. Wish me luck!! Maybe you would like to give me some tips? Or maybe you have some memorable experiences in your first job that you would like to share?

It really depends on your company, the workplace and mostly the people who you are going to work at. My first day at my job was not the best I must admit. My team members are not friendly at all. No one offered or wanted to go lunch with me.. I was sitting there the whole day reading manuals. I got sleepy most of the time and just wanted the clock to strike at the time workers go home. The reading manual thing went on for 3 months I think? What can I say? .

My first day was also spent reading. I was also bored then but after about two weeks they gave me a real task and that was then I wished that they didn't. Anyway, I am learning a lot and I love it here.

A pleasant day to you mihama_poohbear, Congratulations. Maybe that work is your gift after all the perseverance that you did in finding and searching for a job. As for me, I really claimed my work as a big blessing from God. That I consider my job as one of the ministry that He entrusted to me to handle. So in return, I am focusing my self that much in the task and responsibility given to me. Aside from that, I am always considering that I am not working for myself alone. That I am not serving my boss wherein, I can be deceived by just a small issue. Instead, I am always thinking, that I am working as a servant of God. And that, I am working as if that is my last day of my life. That I need to do my very best before I take my rest. In that way, I can say, that I gained a lot of good commendations and earned some awards. Though it is not a big deal to others, hence, it is a big achievement for me that I can be proud of.

Hello airasheila! From the way you write it seems to me that you are a Christian. Am I right? That's a really great principle you got there. I've also decided to give it my best shot in this work that I got because I really believe that there is a purpose for me here. After all my applications, it was here that I got accepted and I didn't anticipate it since it was really not in my plans. However, it seems that God has plans for me. Circumstances have brought me here and I have decided to give it my best. Thanks for your response! It's really great meeting someone like you here.

Thanks hushi22! Hmm..maybe I just got excited because I was told to start right away. I didn't even get to prepare the other requirements yet like clearances and stuff. Anyway, I just hope I'd be able to really make myself good in this. Thanks for your response!

So you oriented yourself to your job all by yourself since the one who was supposed to orient you was on leave? That's really cool. I can see that you are a very flexible person and a fast learner because you were able to do that. Congratulations!

On the first day of work we usually cannot get with them. We feel very uncomforbtable and shy infornt of office staff. We don't know what to do and what not to do. During my first day in office I was very nervous and shy, but few days later we all become familiar to each other and they taught me everything.

It seems that the first day blues would surely melt away if we make more friends in the office. I'm also looking forward to that too, making more friends in the workplace. So that I can also ask them easily if I need help with anything.

The first day of my work was very interesting. In fact I was bit nervous. The first day we wont be knowing any thing .So we have to introduce ourself with every one and become friendly. The person who is sitting next to us, we have to ask him/her if any hinds of complication comes on our work. Then day by day, you will get habituated.

Habituated? You mean you were able to adjust to your work easily day by day? That's great! Thanks for your response.
