Video Games Addictive?

Are video games really addictive? Some, if not most of you, will say yes. I think video games are addictive. If you don't have the mental strength to pull yourself away from a video game, then you are most likely addicted to the game. These type of games don't even have to be a video game! Some of these different games could be Scrabble, Boggle, or even Monopoly. Yes, video games are addictive, but if you notice that you are starting to become addicted to a video game, STOP PLAYING IT FOR A LITTLE. Games can ruin your life, so you MUST be careful of how much time you spend on the game. I have enough power to pull myself away from video games for weeks, so I wouldn't say that I am addicted to games, but others can't even go a day without playing video games, which is really kind of sad. Watch out for people like that, you may do the world a whole lot of good.

yes yes yes... I am currently addicted to this game Rohan, an online RPG game. I already spent a couple of bucks because of this game. My friends and I are very active in this game. This is not the first game I was addicted to, there was also this Ragnarok Online. Look up both games in the net. I really cant stop, immediately after I go home from work I play the game.

Yes they are very addictive, especially those old type puzzle ones that you just have to beat your score over and over again. I enjoy platform games myself and shooter games... i enjoy playing them quite alot and it becomes quite hard to come off them when i'm into the game.

Hi FireVox! I agree with you that video games can be very addictive. And with addiction comes many harmful effects. Glad that you have such power to pull yourself off as much as I do and hope many do have as well. Thought the first step to being able to pull oneself off the addiction is to realize that video games can be addictive. And despite that one actually has the power to pull oneself off that addiction when one starts to feel it. Playing in moderation does help here as well as having a balance or an equally exciting and interesting life than just playing video games.

I used to play a lot of games when I was younger. When I was in college, I would stay up late playing. I started with atari, then family computer, then nintendo. When I visited US in the early nineties, I got myself a super nes. I've also tried sega. But I was single then. Now that I'm older and have kids whose playing time I try to monitor, I don't play as much. But I don't deny them the experience. Right now, they have a computer, wii, psp, ds and they are still playing with the old ps2. My rule is that they have to finish their homework and observe sleeping hours. I give them a few extra hours on weekends, too. I sometimes, still worry though if they stay too long with these game consoles.

I do agree that games can be addictive. I like games just as much as the next guy, but I play in moderation because there are more important things you could be doing instead. I've met quite a few people that go on and on about video games and it can get very annoying, very quickly. It's beyond me how anyone could ever throw their lives away over a something as simple as a video game.
