Indians reveal a 32.5 USD laptop.....

You may not be able to afford an IPad but you can definitely afford this laptop...!! Students of Indian institute of technology(Kanpur) were working on this project from many years and yesterday they revealed this ultimate gadget.Government is even forcing them to bring the price down to Rs.1000 = 22 approx which is currently Rs.1500. Its specifications are- Touch screen 2GB ram WiFi connectivity USB ports Softwares- Multimedia features Internet browser Pdf Reader Video Conferencing

Hello, That is great but i will believe it when i see it.I have my doubts about the price.You see just a 2GB RAM cost about Rs.1700.That is more than the total price of this laptop.So i really wonder!!! jitendra

hen it will be in market I will be buying one for my kid, I am so excited because when I bought my PC about 5 years ago it cost me Rs.30000 ($600). This is great achievement by India hats off !

I think it is quite possible but they would need to make it a government non-profit, non-corruption project. Notepads that now sell for $300 may only cost $30 to produce. The rest goes on wholesale mark-up, software, transport, retail mark-up and taxes. The OS would be Linux with a Windows emulator which is open source and Open Office for the basic office suite of programs - also free. At that price would the government also set up a help line and support for the machines? There would be no margin for the manufacturer to do so.

It is going to hit up the market till 2011 and yes it supports english language.....

its not a laptop but its a slate computer similar to ipad. And its not just created by IIT's Kanpur but collabrated with IISC (Indian Institute of Sciences). It would be in markets by 2011. Hope to see it in real
