My roommates have a dog who is about medium size and still a bit of a pup, and I have Jazzy my cat. Jazzy is usually laid back and chilling by the window or lounging on my bed. When she's looking out the window it's usually in her chair in the dining room. Well the dog, Shorty (named because he's the runt of the litter), sees this as his opportunity to play with her and she hisses and bats at him. Never makes contact though. She jumps down and runs to my room and he gives chase.......Does anyone know how I can keep him from chasing her? We try to stop him every time by yelling his name, or trying hold him back- but to no avail. any suggestions?

I really don't know how to stop Shorty from chasing Jazzy. That is the nature of a puppy, they always like activities, they like to play and run. Maybe he find something on Jazzy, like because Jazzy have hairs and tails, he thought Jazzy will be a great company but the real thing is Jazzy can hurt him. Maybe you have to let the puppy busy, or why not you play with him instead and keep Jazzy upstairs where he can't find her?

Hi Sadie, I have two dogs and a cat but the cat rules the dogs. I had my cat Odi first and she was a year old when I got my dog and then she had pups and I kept one of them. Every now and then the dogs will chase Odi but he usually just smacks them across the nose. Sometimes there isn't much you can do to stop dogs chasing cats, it is a natural instinct for them. Maybe training and sitting them together for periods of time would help. I did have a dog when I was little that always chased my mum's cat but I don't think we were ever able to stop it and I remember mum just keeping them separated. Sorry I couldn't be much help.

sadly, until Jazzy stops running the dog will chase - its in the instincts... And, if Jazzy actually makes contact, it might discourage Shorty from pestering her. I suspect it will take some time for them to work out their differences and interfering isn't going to make much difference...
