as a guitarist i have always been fascinated with other people who play guitar better or worse than i do i have my personal favorites with very familiar names like eddie van halen (evh), slash (guns and roses), vitto bratta (white lion) and so many more but the best guitarist for me is always a very hard choice to make between: Brian May (Queen) and David Gilmour (Pink Floyd) these two guitarists have amazing sound and feel when it comes to playing their instruments and i've always wanted to get their style and add a little bit of zakk wylde in my style of playing dave mustaine doesn't count cause he's primarilly a vocalist and lead guitarist second plus i'd be biased if i picked my ultimate idol

For me, I would have to choose Jimmy Page. I think the guy was brilliant and still is. I think every guitarist out there aspires to learn Stairway To Heaven when they are beginning! It is hard to choose just one though as there have been many awesome guitarists over the years. Dave Gilmour is awesome too. Wish You Were Here is a big favourite for most guitarists to learn. Of course, one has to put Jimi Hendrix on the list as well as Clapton. But what about Angus Young? Try playing the guitar like he does while rolling all over the floor and jumping around like a madman!

Yep, there is no doubting Malcolm's talents. You are right there. The band would not be where it is today as one of the greatest ever if not for Malcolm. It was his band in the beginning and he still controls it and runs a tight ship! It certainly is amazing that Angus can still have that energy on stage after all these years!

Yes, Shorts will keep you looking young, but Angus's legs look a bit weird in the school shorts these days!

i just hope that even when i'm that old i can still rock hard enough it's either that or i'll have to wear short shorts to get the feeling of being young again

Well, I guess there a lot of great guitarist out there. I play the guitar but is not very good at it. I do love Eddie Van Halen, as well as Brian May of the queen. I also have the liking for Mark Knofler of Dire Straits. I have a collection of Van Hallens, Queen and Dire Straits considering that they are my favorite.

You're the only one here besides me who likes Mark Knopler!!! His work takes me to levels little else does! Maggiepie "He who knows nothing is nearer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods & errors." ~ Thomas Jefferson

I have lots of favorites, First metal guitarist that got me into rock and metal was James Hetfield & Kirk Hammett of Metallica and Slash of GnR. Then I was exposed to other guitar gods like Satriani, Steve Vai, & others that could exploit the guitar. lol. I also like Dream Theater's John Petrucci, also old blues guitarists like Eric Clapton & BBKing. Country guitarists/vocalists Keith Urban & Brad Paisley & more... I am always amazed with guitars but I haven't perfected my skills yet. I'm still a newbie when it comes to guitars, I lack speed and dexterity still.

I agree that the original metal touch was gone when they did Load already. But still I like their new songs... I've been a Metallica fan for long now. Uh, did I miss something with Clapton & King?

i would pick Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine, and Slash each of them has their own unique styles of playing the strings, so it's hard to compare with each other. i like Kirk because of his ultra fast speed-pickings (both for doing riffs and solos), tappings with lots of followed-up hammer-ons and pull-offs, and those mind-blowing wah'd solos i like Tom because he is completely different from conventional lead guitarists, he creates weird sounds, hip-hop "riffs" and dj-like solos WITH HIS GUITARS and i like Slash because even he didn't took guitar lessons too seriously, he is still a bad-@$$, hard-melodic player

when you think rock guitar usually the image that comes first to mind is slash he has become an icon with his top hat and curly hair hiding his face and that oh so sweet les paul and then there's angus young hardest hitting, smallest australian guitarist with his sg and epileptic movements onstage after that, all gutarists fade into the background hehehe

i agree with you on all 3 but if this was my list, i would put Slash first and then Kirk Hammett and then Tom Morello all three are really good you picked a nice bunch of guitarists :D

In rock, I pick Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, whose fingering is straight from Paradise, in my opinion. Absolutely no-one can match his delicate & dream-begetting work on Brothers In Arms. Takes me right into the Music...every time. And it's hard to return to the mundane world after that. Well i personally feel that Kirk Hammett(Metallica) and Carlos Santana are one of the best guitarist in the world. I like their songs and solos very much. And the best song of Metallica i like is "Fade to Black". This is the best ever song written by Metallica.

ahm he didn't compare the 2 (kirk hammett and carlos santana) he just said that kirk and carlos were his favorites no comparison there kirk is actually in the top 5 greatest guitarists in the world because of his shred technique and because he influenced a whole slew of metal heads now carlos santana.... wow what can i say about him... he made the guitar sexy with his latin flavored music i love carlos santana and some of his influence has rubbed off on the way i play guitar example: Sa Ilalim ng Buwan on AcidRadio's Each Hit a Soul Album Kirk Hammett's influence is on my faster songs so if you wanna go slow and sexy... think carlos fast and wild... kirk hammett no comparison, both excellent guitarists

I am one of the biggest Bon Jovi fans there is! I don't think anyone can play the guitar like Richie Sambora! He is an aewesome guitar player! If i had the chance to take guitar lessons from anyone in the world, it would definitely have to be Richie!

I like Richie Sambora, the lead guitarist of Bon Jovi. But Bon Jovi is a good guitarist also in his own right.

i grew up with hendrix and the like, all the heavy metal bands etc but as an overall great guitarist id say eddie van halen top them all, ole slow hand eric clapton is also tops on my list. if van halen was around with jimmy he'd wipe them all off the list.

It's pretty hard for me to narrow it down to my one ultimate favorite but I can list off all of my favorite guitarists and the bands that they play for. My favorite genre of music is probably technical metal and some of my favorite guitarists are Ben Weinman of The Dillinger Escape Plan, Brent Hinds of Mastodon, Brian "Head" Welch and "Munky" from Korn although I'm pretty sure that Head handled most of their lead work when he was still in the band. I'm also a pretty big fan of Stephen Carpenter of the Deftones and Adam Jones of Tool. I like all those bands most though because no one really stands out to much because all of the band members do a good job of matching each other's talent or drive each other to play better or differently.
