Who among you here have read the news about the agreement that requires the Philippines to have a long year of education like those of European and American Schools? It was thought of so that Filipinos will be qualified to work there. Do you think it's better

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, a thousand times NO! I'm American, and I really think the emphasis on quantity over quality in public education has been taken way too far. Ok, so you're in school 8 hours a day just about every day for a minimum of 12 years.... and you still can't read when you graduate. You still have no concept of critical thinking, history and its significance, national pride, basic math skills, etc. It's embarrassing and a waste of money. Focus more on quality and the school day will be shortened. Jmho. Blessed Be

If adding a year or two to the present basic education curriculum in our country would increase the chance of employment here and abroad for our graduates... then and only then... we could say that these changes would help the present situation of our competitiveness in the foreign market which is actually my problem at the here in a foreign land. I just hope that future generations would not experience the same problems I am facing right now. :( God bless us all

That would be good if they can lower the tuition fee and provide more Public Schools.

What we need right now is quality education. I don't think the extra year will make a big difference anyways. What will make a great difference is more classrooms, more teachers, more good books and more budget for education. Filipinos are working all over the world we are everywhere and are quite competitive the problem is our own unemployment rate here in our country. I doubt if extra years in school will solve that.

Its way better. Let me explain, because the basic education here in the Philippines takes 10 years, many lessons and skills are not provided to students by the education system. Ever wondered why the industry/ies here in the PH has requirements like "At least 2-3 years in college"? because that's the equivalent of a high school graduate elsewhere. With the addition of 2 years in the basic education, the system aims to provide skills and knowledge that are provided in the first two years of college... and besides, I really wished that there was a carpentry class, automotive class, or even a gym class when I was a high school student... Quality comes from training and time. And besides that, compare the cost of college education against high school education... in a year, high school education only costs around 20k+ while a year in college costs around 50k+ up to 70k+ depending on the course (2 semesters). Imagine if when you graduate high school you can already have a regular job... no discrimination... and you'll see the industry/ies requirements are "high school graduate". hmmm said too much^_^v

No, it's impractical and not necessary. It puts a financial strain on the pockets of the parents. Good education can be achieved even in the present set-up as long as teachers do their jobs well. Actually, the problem isn't on how long or short the curriculum is; the problem lies in the system - in the manner education is provided to the children: how much is taught to them and what are these things that they must learn to help them in their lives in the future, like something practical and not obsolete or impractical. Like in my years in college, we were made to study Philosophy and Theology, what for? It was really impractical for me. (we actually tagged our course as AB Mass Communication major in Philosophy minor in Theology) I took up AB Mass Communication as my major but our subjects included psychology, history, religion and science. Is there a connection between my course and these silly subjects? No parallel, whatsoever. The same goes in elementary and high school. Some subjects are better left in the past. Have a nice day my friend :)

What do you mean by long year of education? Are you talking about that extra year that's tacked onto highschool? I'm not exactly up to date on what's going on in Pinas; we don't have the Filipino Channel. XP Can you explain more please?
