I simply got thirsty after eating two turon (banana roll). So I asked my daughter to buy me a small bottled water at the grocery. The Nestle, I said, that is the smallest. My daughter looked at me and said You want a Gokongwei product? I answered Was Nestle his? She said Yes. Then I replied What about it? My daughter got disgusted. She answered He brought the Ukay-ukay (second hand clothes)here. I told her Just buy me water.

Hiya eileen, I just buy a cheap brand of water that´s going. They have also started to use recycled plastic and I always recycle the plastic bottle after too. I make sure it goes to the right bin always. I can see what she means about the brand of Water but here Nestle Water is not very common. They probably do sell their Water but under different brands so they could easily be as good and much cheaper too. Too much Coke can be bad for you but Coke is great for when you have one of those dry mouth moments or queasy tummy things that happen. It always works for me I just take a very small drink and hold it in the mouth for a few seconds then swallow it magic works every time.

I sell my plastic bottles in the junk shop every month. They pay me enough for one good meal for three people.

angel, our local government issued a city ordinance ordering people to segregate the biodegradable from the non-biodegradable like plastic. The garbage collector comes Tuesday and Friday for the biodegradable, Saturday for the non-biodegradable, and Sunday for the used oil. We have the option to bring our plastic to the junk shop. The city admin recycle the waste and turn the tin cans into robots for city art.

Hiya eileen, Now that is what I wish they would do here like that sell the plastic bottles. That way I would know for sure that the bottles would going to a specific place and not to another rubbish dump even though we put the plastic in the right Place this is what we are paying for after all. No one ever explains anything well just one of those things you put up with. I don´t think I would care how much they paid me as long as they just put the plastic in the right place instead of spending money on all those adverts about recycling plastic. I wish they would show us how and what they do to motivate People more than trying to make everyone feel guilty. If the water did not taste so bad maybe no one would want to buy that kind of water anyway (grin).

Brought from where? Is there something wrong with ukay-ukay? I'm from Baguio and there are lots of Ukay-ukay stores. It has been a help for poor people who can't buy brand new clothes and even rich people buy ones because those clothes are signatured too.

Guys, I am thinking, if I buy a brand new blouse or shirt for two hundred bucks, would that be expensive? When the department stores go on sale, some clothes are even cheaper. Would you still opt for second hand if you can buy brand new? Do brands really matter? Is signature important in the clothing?

Oh, I missed TURON i can see them in the carts but can't seemed to buy it..arrggh. Nestle had been growing for a long time, but i haven't really been searching on them. last i've heard, they took over "magnolia ice cream" I guess she just heard it from some one. maybe if she had explained her reasons, you could have understand her disgust.. although i don't know what to say, but i did searched on Nestle. and i don't think it's a gokongwei owned firm.but i've heard he owns TV5 i, i think..] not a referral LInk. http://www.nestle.com.ph/corpsite/content/pres.asp as for Ukay-ukay, it's better because clothes in malls are way TOO EXPENSIVE, even for me.

My daughter said it was just the Nestle water, not the whole Nestle company. I suppose these guys have interconnections. Turon, banana cue, camote cue, and carioca - that is what we eat for merienda. We avoid fish and squid balls.

Firstly, Nestle is not owned by the Gokongweis. Secondly, i do not see anything wrong with ukay-ukay. lastly, I agree with you to just ask your daughter to simply buy you a bottle of water. It's your choice. :-))

Your Daughter is good, thanks for sharing this matter to Us. But you know, instead of buying bottled water i'll get a coke, Indeed Ukay ukay has a lot of effect on our local garment industries, i would not mind buying a second jacket jacket so i can use it in the farm, a used one is P100 a new one will have a hefty price. maybe P500 to 1000

In a third world country you can not afford to be picky. I'm not saying it is wrong to be picky, don't get me wrong, it's not. But we need to let the young ones know that we need to be practical at times. They need to see the value of need vs want.
