We call street ice cream in our country sorbetes.. its being sold in the streets and are home-made... cheaper, served in wafer cones or on bread.. we sometimes refer to it as "dirty ice cream" ...I curiously observed how its done... the flavorings are of no doubt rich culture media for bacteria but when the flavorings are exposed to ice with salt and agitated continuously , I feel that only a few bacteria can survive temperatures below 0 ... the salt media increases the "collegative property" of the ice and lowers temperature beyond -9C. Salt solution is very hypertonic which will shrink all microbes.. Do you think that street ice cream is dirty?

Logically, you may say its safe but i doubt if it's healthy. There are few reports on incidence of diarrhea and food intoxication from eating sorbetes. But nutrionists don't favor with eating too much of it since its a high carb high fat diet. Children may have fun eating sorbetes but sugar check is a must. It will make them more hyperactive.

yup, it's just called dirty ice cream because it's sold in the streets. my dad knows how to make 'dirty ice cream', or so he says. :) anyway, i don't think it's dirty, but sometimes when the guy selling it looks untidy, i don't buy it. dirty ice cream's really good though.

It depends on how the ice cream is prepared. In my place, we call it cone ice cream or bar ice cream. It's sold on a mobile hawker driving motorcycle. It's hard to be seen nowadays in my neighbourhood. May be this profession is not profitable due higher cost of living. I only get a chance to taste occasionally when I saw seller is selling outside my house.
