Cherries have no taste this summer

I love cherries, and usually buy tons in the summer when they are plentiful and cheap. But I have noticed that this summer, the cherries I have eaten have almost no taste, and several of my friends have said the same thing. I have tried both organic and conventional cherries, black & red cherries, and they all seem to be lacking in flavor. Has anyone else noticed this, or is this just a regional phenomenon? Does anyone know why cherries have less taste this year? My family is very disappointed in our cherries this year (although it's still fun to spit the seeds outside).

You are lucky! I have been so disappointed, and my kids are, too. We've been buying blueberries and raspberries instead.

What diet are you following? I thought cherries were ok on most diets, even a diabetic diet, since they help regulate blood sugar. Just curious. But I am glad you are enjoying your occasional treat!

Hi. Suzieqmom. I have eaten cherries this year and I do admit that they taste pretty bitter. They don't taste like they should taste at all. They are semi sweet and bitter at the same time. So, I know what you mean about cherries having no taste. I love cherries though.

Well, I have been VERY happy with the cherries this summer (2012). They are MUCH juicier and tastier than in previous years, don't you think? They are back on my "must buy" list!

Yes, I agree--this year's crop are much tastier. I have eaten many, many cherries this summer!
