Philippines

Hello guys, are we agree or disagree to Senator Edgardo Angara who passed a bill that every pack of cigarettes here in Philippines will be sold for 1,000 pesos? This was also supported by Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero. If this happen i can't imagine my self buying this instead of food..... maybe on his mind his on Singapore that only foreigners now can smoke in a restricted area... If this approved maybe it's time to end our smoking habit which we all know that smoking is bad for our health.

Hi! I didn't get the details of the proposed bill. Does it really say that a pack would cost 1000 pesos? I agree with imposing more tax for it, to discourage smokers, but if it will end up costing that much, it might also just encourage smugglers. If that's the case, the bid to collect more taxes will fail.

yes right, more smugglers to come and more people will take advantage of the price... i wonder also what the big business man think about this an OPPORTUNITY or another thing to take advantage of it.

the President smokes too - i wonder what he's stand on this
Hello INcintosh WELCOME TO MYLOT. I wonder what will our beloved Pnoy be response on this bill. we all that the President himself is a smoker and if he stop, or lessen his habit it will severely complicate him, preventing him from concentrating on his work. as for most Filipinos who loves smoking, they will protest against this, but am sure to not so rich smokers will be force to stop the habit.

Good idea - if it'll stick. I agree to this bill! Why spend money on cigs that is bad not only for your health but also for the health of the people you are smoking around. Best spend it on food or clothes or even bills. or...you know: amusement parks, books, dvds, charity....other stuff that doesn't give you cancer.

I'm definitely for this bill. I mean, it's a really big action in making sure that there would be a control on people's excessive smoking. In Jeepneys or public places for example, even though it's now a law which forbids everyone from smoking in public areas and transportation, you can still see a lot of smokers immediately subjecting non-smokers to second hand smoking! What's worse is that a lot children become second-hand smokers. On that note, you can also see children as young as five years old already smoking! They really should approve this bill. Because smoking is a deadly luxury, not a healthy necessity.

Surely the smoker will always find ways even if how expensive it is. Some of the ways would be to steal or anything against the law just to satiate the chills of their bones.

im not a smoker so the law will not affect me directly, but i guess it bit too much, exaggerated and unrealistic. It might kill the industry and then the smoking habits of a large number of population usually those who are unfortunate in monetary needs.

Yeah, I'm very much supportive with this bill, It will help a lot of Filipinos change their lives and lessens smoke hazard. Though it may affect Companies distributing this products but the bottom line is, It will do benefit more people ceasing it than adhering it.
