Why do you think there is a need for anonymity when writing/blogging?

The obvious reason for some is because the net is not foolproof. Others wanted to hide their true identity for their own protection. I prefer to blog or write with my identity known but with limitations. I believe we have to have some reservations. What do you think would be the reason for a person to blog anonymously?

The reasons for the need of anonymity are : 1There are many personal topics which are often offended and criticised by public, thus being anonymous protects that criticism. 2There are many abnormalities that one feels that he/she has and wants solution for that, which are often misguided by others. 3Today security is of utmost importance, those who take precaution prevent themselves from serious threats. This is one more reason for anonymity. there might be many more reasons but these are the prime reasons which many of the users experience. Have a nice day!

abnormalities means personal problems that one doesn't feel like revealing or discussing like diseases,etc.. i think that exonerates your confusion. Thanks for responding back! Happy mylotting!

A very frank interpretation of what i described but there can be many other reasons or interpretations apart from what you said.even what you are saying is 100% true. And there is one advice for you, please check your spelling mistakes which often occur due to fast typing. Anyway thanks for commenting, have a nice day! Enjoy mylotting!

I think others prefer to blog anonymously to keep their privacy, to express and share a little of themselves without worrying to be known immediately.

There are certain limitations in my blogs as for instance my true name is on their so it would not be difficult to track me down that way as I am very active online so I am sure people can figure that out. The limitations I do use are simply because there is so much fraud and I see and read about it daily that I do not want to be a target. A couple months a go a myLot and also online, very active member was a victim of fraud where he had all his accounts hacked, including his Paypal. He lost a great deal of money and well I hope this never happens to me. Although they would not be able to get much as there isn't much there. But even a few cents here and there would be detrimental to me as I work so hard to earn them.

it is one of my fears being scammed or hacked. i always post my pic but never the other personal things like phone number and bank account number. now i have to check on mylot profile again ha ha that one incident is scary.

Yes he is a long time online blogger and a long time myLot member. He was scammed via a site where someone just with his email address hacked his email account and was smart enough to figure out all his pword via his email address. The girl is only 19 who did all this. The myLot member posted something here to inform us all and he is a myLot friend of mine. We were able to view her online profile from elsewhere so we were able to read all about her before the discussion was deleted. It was an awful shame that such a young girl if in fact that was her did all this, we were all sunned.

I think it depends on the topic of the writing or the blog. Some things just might be slightly embarrassing to write about in your own name, you know? Also, I think some people are just more private than others.

probably what you are saying is the nature of the blog. yes, sometimes the content that says about the nature of the blog requires one to be anonymous.

One reason is that he may want to be able to write to write anything and everything under the sun, and people close to him may be hurt by it. Because of course, blogging is about sharing what's happening in your daily life, right? What if you suddenly want to write about some acquaintance' sensitive issue? Second is that, what if some psycho out there suddenly decides to stalk you? That'd be totally frightening!

For me, anonymity when writing and blogging gives me the opportunity to be more open. My online persona is much more bold, confident, and outgoing because she doesn't have to worry about what others think. They don't REALLY know who you are. Even if people you know in real life are reading your blog or writing, if you keep an online username instead, they don't know that it's you and therefore can't judge YOU personally for it. I think it also lets you detach and take more risks because there's not much a person can do to harm your non-online life if they don't know who you really are.

my son likes your opinion. he said it is exactly what his point is. it can be true. some people are bolder enough when they stay anonymous.

Thank you! Yes, I think that's it. When you're anonymous you can have more courage, which makes a better blog.

Perhaps what they are writing about is on certain people in their life. If they are anonymous, maybe they feel that they can speak more freely.

well, it could be. but that is cowardice to me. if you write about other people, you have to write with facts. if it is about your opinion about other people, still it has to be factual. these people would not want people hunting them when they say bad words. but why would you be afraid if it is true. but then again, there is fear of incrimination.

I have personally never written anything that didn't have my real name on it, I figure that way years from now, if someone should happen to quote one of my articles, or even if they should happen to take a piece from one of my ebooks, and it says my name, then I will be remembered for years to come. Where if you don't put your real name, no one will ever know who really wrote that book. Or that really good article. To me its always best to be up front and honest.

I think it has soemthing to do with the amount of personal inforamtion that goes into a blog and onto the internet. I always liek to amke blogs but never seem to stick with them. When I do make them I never PUBLISH my real name or show my birthday or anythign and I usually dont pass out my url. Bc then, everyone would have the opportunity to rread what I write. It's teh same reason I dont freely pass out referrals to0 mylot. I write personal things here and truly let my whole and true self out for eveyone tos ee and I dont want just anyone to know those things. Maybe it has to do with being shy or without self-esteem or just for personal privacy or maybe perople are scared otehrs will find that information and use it to hurt them (wether in society-viewed ways or by stalkign or soemthing...). I agree with you tha there should be certyawin reservations of what you post to keep yourself safe...But why make yourself a blog or discuss your feelings and thoughts if your not going to be honest?

so it is true that one of the reasons is because people are just shy or not confident of what they write. if one doesnt want friends or acquaintances to know what he or she is up to then he should not be writing anything on the net. he could write his thoughts on a notebook or journal, not on the net.

Actually, I blog using "identities" that are related to the overall theme. It's my marketing solution to a marketing problem: how to promote several online publications. For instance, I have a blog about blogging. So naturally, it makes sense to adopt the identity of a BlogAdvisor. For my blog about moneymaking, I use MoneyEngineer. For my blog about social networking, I use BlogLeader. And so on. These identities are implemented as Twitter accounts. So, any time I need to quote myself, I simply provide a link to a specific tweet. In any case, my true identity is just a link or two away from any of my blogs. So, I'm not a big fan of anonymity. I am, however, a true believer in marketing and marketing strategies.

hmmm... interesting. i could have thought of that! but i started as a blogger and so i had my name on it and a pen name. i thought of it as a way to market the blog. now, my blog is left unattended ha ha

Security is the main reason why bloggers hide their identities. Another thing is that there's freedom in being faceless. You can say whatever you want to say and people won't even know it was you even if they walk past you on the street. To some bloggers, their blog is where they express what they can't say in person. Just like for writers with pen names. They can have a totally different personality online. I don't mean that they it's their intention to deceive people. Maybe it's just better that way for them. Last thing, that I think is not so important. Some bloggers like to be mysterious. If they happen to have a lot of followers and they become hard to find, people will be more curious and will be more interested in what they want to say. Maybe to shed some light on who the writer really is. Good luck to your writing! Cheers!

i dont go for the idea that some anonymous ones want to deceive. i have a friend blogger who wanted to be mysterious and i understand him for that. thank you for sharing your thoughts.

I personally feel anonymity is required as precaution to protect your own intrests rather than with an intention to scam others. Specially in Mylot the questions get so personal that you are scared to answer them wonderding what would people think about your if they find out, so its necessary to be open about your opinions at the same time maintain anonymity to keep control over your personal information.

if it is an honest opinion, why would someone be worried? we have to realize that not all who participate in this discussion forum, if i may call it as this, are open-minded, intelligent and sensible. we will stumble participants who are not with the same level as our thinking. but as to protection, it is understandable. some individuals would not want to be ostracized by saying or writing an honest opinion.

I think ppl feel they can express how they feel more freely if they are 'disguised'. but when ppl feel that noone knows who they are they speak freely and can express opinioms more easily. when theydon't feel that they are more cautious.
