Tonight I was going through the different parts of my computer, because I wanted to delete some trojan horses. I managed to locate them and remove them, but it made me think about my computer knowlegde or well - lack of knowledge. Yes, I am able to use the internet, create documents and folders and all those basic things, but there are so many things I don't know anything about for instanse the different files. I don't want to get into problems because I was too impulsive and deleted things that I shouldn't have touched I think I ought to learn a bit more about computers. My husband's brother and one of my friends help me sometimes and I really appreciate that, but they don't live close to my home and it would be nice to be able to handle some of the problems on my own. How well do you know your computer? Have you explored the different parts of your computer or do you usually spend your time on other things like the internet or computer games? Would you like to learn more about computers? What would you like to learn?

Hi porcospino, I believe i have fair knowledge of my computer. I try to make it cleaner so that it could run faster. If there is a problem i am able to handle it, mostly. And in case i am unable to, i have many friends who could even dis-assemble the computer. My friend opened up his laptop by himself once. But i still have few more things to learn about my computer like installing another operating system with windows like linux and i am really bad at the command prompt in linux. My brother helped me with installing linux and i wish i could learn more of it. Anyways, i am quite comfortable with using windows and if anything bad happens, i am able to re-install the whole windows, and i am glad i am able to do that on my own.

I wouldn't dare to disassamble my computer. I am pretty sure that I would be lost if I tried so I leave those things to people who know more about computers than me. It must be nice to be able to fix most of your problems on your own, I wish I could say that. I have a basic knowlegde about computers, but I would like to learn more, so that it would be easier for me to fix smaller problems on my own.

Well that is one of the advantages of having a computer from the time when you were very small, we get to learn more naturally that way because we would experience more. I had my first computer when i was 18, i didn't have a computer in my home before that. My friends had and that is how they learned so much more. As for now, even i need to know many things about the computer, but i am glad at least i am aware of the problems that i could face with the computer. Even if i am unable to make it alright, i am able to understand what is happening. So the thing is how long have you experienced using a computer. If you had access to computer as a child, i am sure even you could have opened up your computer.

You sound a lot like me. I usually depend on other people like my brother-in-law or my friend when I have a computer problem, because I don't know enough about computers to fix it on my own. Some time ago we had a problem with our desktop, when we tried to turn it on it wouldn't start, we tried several times but nothing happened. We had to ask our friend to fix it for us, for him it was easy, but we had no idea how to fix it.

I also feel that it would be a good idea to learn a bit more about computers, so that I will be able to solve some of the problems myself. Just like you I don't like ask for advice all the time, and when I experience some problems I often wish that I knew a bit more than computers, because there are many things that I don't understand.

My computer is like my best friend and a brother to me. So I know very much about it. I have been exposed to computers since I was 7 years old. I can troubleshoot any kind of problems my computer has, whether its software or hardware related. If there are some cases or problems that are new to me, I try to post my questions online on forums and ask for help. That way, I can easily receive answer and I will also learn new ideas.

You must have a lot of experience when you have been using computers for that long. I started when I was a teenager, at that time there were no internet, but I used the computer to play and to write. It is good idea to ask for advice online if you get a problem that you haven't tried before. I have done that as well, and I got some very useful advice that way.

I work at night at the moment, when I get back from work I sleep and when I wake up I turn on my computer. The rest of the day I spend a lot of time in front of the computer. Probsbly not as much time as you, but still quite a lot of time. It is also experience that time passes really fast when I am working on the computer. I am trying to earn some extra money online, because I am going on a trip soon and I need some extra money.

Thanks for your advice. Yes, it would probably be a good idea to ask my friend to have a look at it. We asked my brother-in-law for advice and he tried to help us over the phone, because he doesn't live close to our home, but it would have been a lot easier if he had been able to see the computer and fix it himself. Fortuneately my friend doesn't live that far way from us and he has helped us before.

I know my computer pretty well. It is a Dell Studio computer, and it is awesome, it hasn't broken down on me, yet, and it is pretty damn fast. It is a nice looking computer. It can do things that my last computer could never do. My computer is just awesome.

Well, I have been using the computer for the past 7 years. I know my way around. Well, I am not saying that I am an expert but I sure know the basics. I guess, up until now, my computer is very efficient because of my knowledge. A friend of mine is very good at computers and before when I have problems, I always call him for help. It was from him that I learned my way around.

COMPUTER looked more of a mess when i joined this course ... I got my PC in no time when i was about to complete that course so you can expect the rest.I keep on annoying my PC beyond limits --- i experienced all kinds of problems with it so i got some tricks as how i can get rid of those freaky yet simple problems.I'm into softwares though so i keep on experimenting with new ones...if you ask me about those hardware stuff then i would probably go blank basic ones are an exception.great day.

Yes, I have explored almost everything inside my computer with respect to hardware. In software aspect, maybe I need to learn more because there are so many software that is being used, each with unique features and different configurations. It is also important that we must familiarize ourselves with these software because the more you are capable of repairing it. I have been working with computers for almost 12 years. I have encountered almost different kind of problems, and the more I make my hands dirty, the more that I learn new things. But these problems are almost endless, maybe because of the advancement in every aspect of computers. I also have assembled computers with different hardware configurations for my customers and in the office. As a technician, I would like to learn and acquire A+ certification and have a course in CISCO so that I could further maximize my skills in networking. This way, I could troubleshoot both computer and network problems.

I'm generally the go to person for computer related issues in my family. I built the current set up that I'm posting from as well as "Frankensteined" at least 6 other computers for friends and family member's to date. It's so bad that I've set up a remote connection to my mum's computer so that when the inevitable 3 a.m. phone call comes of "Raven, can you look at my computer. Something's flashing and I'm not sure what's going on." It saves a 30 mile drive in a car that I don't have at the moment just to find out that her Java was updating and was waiting for her to approve something. Hardware wise, I can largely repair my system. Software is where I get a little gray though. Typically I can handle what I need for installation as well as debugging but when I cannot, I call beloved technophiles and plead for a touch of their wisdom! Though soon, I'll be certified for Computer Information Systems through DeVry so I hope to be a little less lost when discussion programs and programming.

I'm using my computer for about 10 years from now. If my computer had a problem I'm the one fixing it. I upgrade hardware and software of my desktop computer. I used my computer for my research and work's and now my kids using it to play some games.
