Why would anyone want to bring home an alligator?

I have heard of many stories of people going to Florida for vacation, seeing a baby gator, think they are adorable and bring them home for a pet. Then to their amazement (good grief) the gator grows and becomes full grown so they dump the gator somewhere like in a sewer or in the middle of a forest. First off, WHAT WERE THESE PEOPLE THINKING?!?! Anyway, I thought that these incidents were kind of rare and maybe people have gotten smarter and know better than to do this. I guess I was wrong. I just heard about a gator that looked to be about 5 feet long who was rescued from a crackhouse (of all places). The residents brought the gator home after a trip to Florida. Why would anyone ever think that a gator would be a good pet?

You know I always thought that most of these stories were made up. That is until recently..now I know that at least one of them is for real...I was at the 80th birthday party for my Uncle and you know how the truth comes out when everyone get together especially when folks get to the age when they just don't care anymore!!! Well, it wasn't my Uncle that told the story, but my Aunt. No names to protect the innocent(guilty?). They used to come to Fl. every year to visit us. One year Aunt___ took a baby alligator home for a pet...Yeah, this lovely lady that I always thought would NEVER EVER do ANYTHING like that did that. They must have kept it for a long time because it got pretty big and they live where it gets a BIT chilly in the winter. I have no clue where they kept it warm in the winter. Anyway she told me she turned it loose in Rock Creek Park...Anyone know where that is....I did. It survive long enough to get found and put into a zoo somewhere. It even made the papers...I remember reading about it. This lady is a trip. Ahhh, another family story. I have quite a family. Shalom~Adoniah (This is an alias)

Wow. lol. Your own aunt, that is crazy. I guess we really never know what our family is capable of until the stories are shared. Crazy. lol.

People can sometimes be unbelievably stupid sometimes. But I'm pretty sure that a few months ago someone had done similar things in England. I'm sure I read in a newspaper about someone finding a crocadile in a lake somewhere, and also some pyraha's got released into a river. It's crazy because it disrupts the whole balance of the eco system.

It does disrupt the eco system. Animals are native to certain areas for a reason. That's the way it should be and it should not be messed with. It's like this one thing I heard about. Some scientists introduced a different reptile to an area and within two years, this reptile multiplied and had eaten a huge percentage of a native animal which is now considered endangered.

stupid people who would have thought he could tame a baby gator , before he/she managed to tame this little-cutty-growing up baby gator, then he/she will see him/herself losing a pair of hands , feet and head

then as soon as the gator hurts them, they are ready to kill the animal or let it go so it can harm someone else.
