TO CHRIST believers and non believers as well I am so sorry for using versus , I just wanted to catch your attention. This comes across my mind after talking about nun's extraordinary life with a Korean catholic student. She thinks that Maria is much important than Christ to Catholic believers. Who thinks the same way with my student? Why, please explain your thoughts. For me It is JESUS CHRIST whom I believe in and like mothers I respect and love Maria, the mother of CHrist.

No I don't think its right here is why: Luke 11:27-28 And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked. But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Jesus said himself that those who keep the word of God are more blessed than his own mother, so we shouldn't be worshiping Mary as that goes against the very word of God.

Praying to and making statues of someone is worship IMO and as described by the bible. As far as her being the one who conceived Jesus what about Mathew 3:9 "And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham." God could have made Jesus out of the very dust of the earth if it would have been his will but instead he kept his promise that he had made in Moses day that he would raise a prophet up from them. How did Jesus teach the disciple to pray? Did he tell them to pray to his mother? No, he told them to pray to God the father in heaven. Praying to= worship.

You've used the word "worship" which I think not appropriate. Catholic called MARY as blessed because,in Luke 1:48, Mary's cousin Elizabeth said " Blessed are you among women" and Mary acknowledges this blessing by saying " all nations will call me blessed". God honors Mary because she's the one who conceives, nurtures Jesus Christ and suffered form the grief of loss . We HONOR not worship Mary because all mothers including Mary are influential to their child so believers honor her.

Almost there but not yet.. Before anything else I would like to say thank you evan for giving your thoughts.. Yet, I would like to draw a line between prayer or praying and worship. Though at a glance these two words are synonymous. Yet, they differ. Praying is an act of prayer; seeking good for self or others; sublime thinking. Worship is the highest privilege and the first duty of all created creature intelligences; is the conscious and joyous act of recognizing and acknowledging the truth and fact of the intimate and personal relationship of the CREATOR with the creatures. So as you could see worship is not just praying it is the highest form of communicating and recognizing your CREATOR in your heart and mind.

You can show a line shorter by drawing a bigger line next to it. There is nothing long or short or there is nothing small or great in this world. It all depends on how you view it.

Yeah you're right, both of them are significant to Catholic's faith. However, when my student told me that she was confused because Catholics , in general, believe more in Christ. To make it clearer, I draw a line by telling her that Maria became significant because she conceived "the great son" Christ.

One think I always noticed is that Catholics though they worship Christ within the church they build a grotto for Mary outside the church. The devotees immediately after the mass go to the grotto to honor her and to offer their prayers. There is only one prayer specific to Mother Mary and that is 'Hail Mary, full of grace..." This led me to believe that Catholics honor Jesus more than Mother Mary. In fact we must pray for Mother Mary's ascension because without her Jesus would not have been born. She too is equally important.

I am not a catholic but I am aware of the devotion that catholics have for her. I think that Christ is still much more important than Maria cause He is the Savior of the world, the Lord and Redeemer. Maria is also important as she is the mother of Christ and that she also played an important role in being a mother of Jesus.

Thank you for your comment, I appreciate it. You are right CHRIST is what we believe in, the center of our faith. MARIA and JOSPEPH as well as the apostles and saints they are following CHRIST that's why they are called to be God's people.
