I think that is a reset to factory default setting's it wont format your phone just a plane software reset. You can also try the hardware reset by turning off your mobile phone and remove memory card and sim card. Then hold green button (call button) + 3 + * + power on button all together, hold it until the format loading appear. This hardware reset can only done in some nokia mobile phone like 6600 or other BB5 and DCT4.

A good alternative is using this code *#7780# as it does not delete user data and all complications are also removed. It loads the phone's original system files, its not factory setting.

This is another key for Formatting Phone specially for N series, S60 Phone, Holds *, call key and 3 at the same time while restarting your phone. Let your phone reboot while holding on the 3 keys.It will return to original set up. It is functioning well on my 6630, and i been using it every time my phone has a virus
