What do you think went wrong about the Quirino Grand Stand Hostage Taking that made it difficult for authorities to neutralize the situation? Was it the place? The people? The weather? Equipments? What do you think?

That is also the same question that I had in mind, who is to blame? If it is the place, that crime could happen in any place I believe, and it should not be blame why did these things happen. The weather,it can also affect the retrieval and also the strategies that the Philippine National Police are planning to implement. Lack of equipments is also a problem. If only the Police has an equipment to help them deal with the hostage taker like a gas mask so if they will throw a tear gas, they can't be affected. I saw some of the police has no bullet proof shield that they can wear in times of need. The Philippine National Police needs modern equipments to deal with hostage taking. The Government should provide funds for that and that fund should go directly to the Police..there should be no corruption. I don't know if they also have wrong with there strategies. Maybe if they had use the tear gas earlier, the hostage drama will also end earlier. That is the only way they can penetrate the bus by means of distraction to the hostage taker. This even will really have drastic effect in the Philippine Tourism Industry and that really suddens me a lot.

I think no one is to blame for what happened. But the availability of equipments and a well devise plan by the authorities should have made the operation a breeze.

heartnet02, First on the list would be the authorities for not being decisive! Philippines is known to be non negotiable with terrorism and just because their own (former) member is a hijacker, I can see the confusion from all quarters in your government authorities starting with your President, Chief of Staff, Police Commissioner and the officer in charge of the SWAT team. Acts of terror whether the element is domestic or foreign is a form of terrorism and the authorities would have seen the need to be prepared for the worst i.e. the use of force eventually to rescue the hostages. It should have been identified so that decisions can be decisive to enhance the preparation and execution of the mission to counter this siege. What you saw was a day of indecisiveness and the SWAT team sleeping throughout their job. And, I must say with their alarming incompetence televised all over the world is just appalling - I am sure they should be ashamed for their lack of professionalism and national pride. They really looked like a bunch of clowns in the counter siege operation. Video feed: http://you.video.sina.com.cn/api/sinawebApi/outplayrefer.php/vid=37322542_1/s.swf
