Recently i have started taking Maths tuition for small kids because i am pretty good at math and i wanted to utilize my free time. It has been quite some time since i started giving tuition. Most of my students always ask me whether there is a simple way to learn math because most of them are scared by algebra, trigonometry and calculus. I personally like all these stuff. Now i however find it more difficult to explain to kids about math because they don't seem to be remembering any equations or formula in their minds. SO i had started all over again with teaching the basic formulas and stuff in math and they didn't find it much interesting. Why don't they realize that it is only they that can change themselves? I am even spending some extra time on a particular students. Why can't they learn the stuff themselves? What can i do to make them realize the importance of math? I should be able to tell them that without their hard work i can't do anything also. Please advise me! Thanks! Cheers!

I think only your diligence and love of the subject can see you thru with such students…as it is, most kids don’t like maths so you already have a tough task on hand. My son hates maths more than anything only coz he cant concentrate and you know how important concentration is in maths. I’ve tried everything but nothing works…its only when he himself wants to do well in maths (final exams) that he concentrates and does well. So as a teacher you just have to drill home the point but its for the students themselves to understand.

Wow! You're teaching kids with Math! That's really cool! Anyone would definitely have a hard time in math. There are those who excel in that subject but of course they still have difficulty in memorizing formulas. They're also still kids, which means they still have a very short attention span that's why they lose their focus on your lessons and forget the equations easily. I think what you should do is to have math related activities to engage them more. Experience is a good teacher right? I believe you should let them experience the equations they need to remember, so that they could easily recall what they experienced and remember the equations that go with it.

learning maths is intelligent matter. All are not having same intellience. Some people have difficulties in maths because of bad foundation. Start them from the bigining. So you can find their individual problem. Imagin this. if you have a tiney throne in your feet what will you do. First you must find the throne. After that you must take it out. After that every thing will be all right. If they are not intelligent go slowly. let them to have their own time. Always be kind to them. I am a former math teacher.

hi.... i think you are also a student and you know what you lacked from the lectures... maths is a subject done by enjoying and playing with problems .. so make the student know it by just not making them to do just the subject maths .... i think children certaily enjoy apptitude maths which is very much interesting ... i used to spend my time with those in my 7th and 8th..... try making to make them feel that they can do anything with maths .....

Its great to see somthing so thoughtful and willing to spend so much time for the welfare of others. I am sure youa re also aware of vedic maths and abacus, where the technique is simple but with practice your students will be able to solve any maths problems easily. Its better to use simple techniques to solve complicated maths rather than ask them to keep practising the equations again and again. I remember going through to something similar when i was in school and simply use dto hate maths, but my son has learn vedic maths and he solves maths sums like magic. Its simply great. Please try it out.

Wow good for you you're good in math..I have a hard time to analyze some problem solving which regards to math..But it seems easy when you study and learn it alone than to have someone to teach you.self study can make you more deeply understand math.

I don't think anyone will ever be able to convince children that math is important! It's a subject that some people find extremely hard to get to grips with, and because of this they might just find it easier to give up with it altogether rather than admit that it will serve a purpose to them in their future lives. The only things that you can do is say that it's important in relation to school- as they may be held back a grade if they don't complete their tests to a high enough standard. This should be enough to get them working on it for the time being- they can discover why it is so important in later life.

IF they don't have the interest, whatever u do, is useless. It's just like me. I have never liked maths when i'm in school, and yet i'm being forced to take A Maths when i'm in college. Luckily for me, i managed to scrap through them, just barely passing. I don't find maths appealing to me, and it's definitely not easy, even though formulaes are given during examinations.. But an open book test, is often the hardest too.

I have been giving tuition for kids for a few years. I think the most important thing to do is to arouse their interest for the subject. It must be their weakest subject where they need tuitions. So it can be easily understood that they're scared by that specific subject. One of the 'technique' I use for arousing their interest for the subject and relieving their scares is 'reinforcement'. The simplest reinforcement 'tool' is words. Words like "well done","good job","u're amazing",whenever they did a simple maths problem correctly. Hope this simple advice can help you.
