My mind wanders away whenever I am forced to listen to any boring speeches. May be I am not a good listener. Still at times I do listen to it if it is really is to. Usually during my school days I used to listen that would be projected in writing exams too. But still at times my mind goes away to other issues. May I need to get some concentration to get along with those speeches. The tactics of listening power and remebering it at the right time and purpose.

If the speech doesn't interest you, it's but normal that your mind will wander way. As much as possible, just listen to speeches that interests you.

Sometimes my mind also wanders away while listening to boring speeches. It is usual. We normally concentrate on what we are interested.

It really depends on the kind of speech, if it's boring and uninteresting then it's just natural that our minds wander away. It also depends on the speaker, even if the topic is interesting but the speaker has no charm or charisma and doesn't speak very well then the audience will surely become bored. I've experienced it too several times and I think I could just count those times when I was really attentive to seminars, meetings or conferences that I have attended. But sometimes, when needed, we just have to really condition ourselves to listen if we really want to learn something. :)

I find that if I am even a little bit tired, my mind wanders a lot. I found this to be especially troubling when I was in college. Listening to professors lecture was not interactive enough for me to pay attention. I find that even something as simple as taking notes on the speech / lecture helps me pay attention and helps me retain what was spoken.

For me in depends on the topic, the speaker and how long the speech is. My attention immediate wanders when i don't find the speaker effective or if it's too long already and i'm getting hungry or thirsty then my attention span becomes shorter..:)

Agree with your stats about wandering on listening to the speaker who is addressing witty speech. That is why everywhere I go, I carry my little compact digcam so that I can plan for my side tasks during that time for photographing and videographing. At least, my self-interests fulfilled.

If I am listening to a speech and it becomes long and uninteresting to me, my mind will drift away. I will think of something that does interest me. Before you know it, the speaker has finished talking. By this time, you have missed most of what the speech was about.

Yes, it does wander away, well, most of the time. I hate listening to speeches that whenever a speaker starts to speak I do something else, like play with my itouch, and never listen to the speech. I so rarely listen to speeches, I only listen to a speech if it is very interesting and funny, if not, then never mind. I must admit, most speeches are boring.

Mind mind usually wanders away if I find what I'm listening to to be boring. But I try not to be too obvious to the speaker that I'm not listening. It is not nice. We still have to give respect to the person speaking in front even if we don't like what we are hearing.
