I have just started selling stuff on ebay and so far it has been quite profitable but then I have only sold 3 things so far but, successfully. The latest stuff I have put on though hasn't had so much as a look at by anybody! I was wondering how many of you out there use ebay to sell or buy stuff? Do you have any tips for me as a seller? Do you have any tips for me as a buyer? What bad experiences have you had as a buyer or seller?

I am only a buyer on Ebay, but these are my tips for you and other Ebay sellers: 1. Make sure your title of the item is selling. You need to make sure the title says what a great product it is, and not just says the facts. Is the product brand new? Say it! Is it in great condition? Say it! and so on... 2. Write all the information you have about the item. A lot of buyers, myself included will just skip your item if the description isn't clear. So anything you can think of should be put in the description, including measurements for most things. 3. Always put a picture that you took yourself of the item in the auction. I never buy stuff where there is no pic, and I never buy things where I see that the seller is using someone else's pics. 4. Work on your feedback. It is very important!

I use to sell alot on ebay when i had my antique store. The only trouble i had was w/the buyers. My soon said i attracted all the 'loonies' & i think he was right, lol. The only tips i have for u is just to be honest w/what u are selling, make alot of pictures of the item & hope & pray u don't attract the 'loonies' like i did. GOOD LUCK.

I'm a buyer on ebay and what I check out first is the member's reputation. Since you just started your ebay business, I suggest that you should really focus on building a good reputation. The other important things you should highlight are.. Your item description - the informative it is, the better. If a buyer is really interested in your item, he/she will really contact you. But for buyers who sorta just "window shop" on ebay like I do, it is definitely appealing if its description answers all the possible questions that a buyer would ask. Pictures - post clear pictures of your item. its better to post more than 1 picture so that we as buyers can talk a closer look at the item. Price - I know profit is important for sellers but from a buyers initiative, I would always find items that has bargain prices. so if the price is lower than most in the market, the better and interesting it is for buyers. Communication - There are some buyers who just aren't satisfied by reading your item description but would really find time to contact the seller. So as a buyer, I would appreciate if the seller would respond as soon as possible. As a buyer, the worst experience I had on ebay was being scammed. I don't wanna put it into detail, it was my fault anyway because I didn't check upon the seller. All I focused was how cheap the item was. So that's just about it. Best of luck to you and your ebay business.

I started on eBay as a buyer and as such built up a of good feedback so when I started trying to sell on eBay I had a good record. To sell on eBay you need to make sure you have items in demand and also a good price. You can do thi by checking to see who else is selling the same items This can help you price your item competitively and make certain you are in the right category or sellers to find what you are selling. If there are many people selling the same thing, you might have to price your item less tha theirs to get a sale. Sometimes, there is so muc competition it may not be worth listing. The last I knew, eBay gives you the first 5 items listed in a month with no listing fee. You can try using those free listngs for items that may not sell or items with igher listing fees to increase your profit. Also make sure you have good photos and descriptions. You might also offer a money back guarantee to increase buyers trust.

Well, i have bought 97 items on ebay in the last 2 months and they were really a great deals compared to the market price of that product in my area. I only buy items which are ending in 1 hour as my chances of winning are the most as i am constantly looking at it until it gets over.

Hi there nikhilgupta14 Yes as a buyer I think you have to patient. The stuff I have put on there most recently has not even got anybody watching them but they still have about 6 days to go so there is still time. Thanks for your response

I am having a similar problem. I haven't been able to sell a thing on Ebay. I tried several times to sell my phone, my dog, the TV, but there really isn't anyone buying. The price seems right as I researched first the other people's prices before posting mine. I guess reputation really does more than bragging rights.

Hi there xenoyosh I think if mine don't sell then I shall just keep re-listing them until they do! I don't think I am losing anything by doing that! Why should I sell it for something way way less than it is worth? Keep trying I say. Thanks for your response

Well I tried the selling thing.. I actually sold a few items to this guy.. And I ended up eating my profit because I shipped him the stuff to Canada and it ended up costing way more than I thought. So be careful and make sure you know how much it is going to actually cot to ship your items. The other thing is.. I don't know if you have heard of BigCrumbs.. this site is awesome if you are a shopper -but as you can earn from them- it is even more awesome if you can earn from them. This bigcrumbs is a FREE to join site. I see you are in UK and it is ok for you to use too. What some of the high earning members of BC have done is slip in a piece of paper with a referral link (many have purchased business cards- or domain names to shorten the link) but not absolutely necessary. This referral link will be good for your customers because you are telling them how they can join under you for FREE and the next time they shop at ebay they can be earning cash back... for free.. who isn't going to want that? Soon you are rolling in referrals--if you actually get your items sold that is.. LOL And let me just mention this there are Earners on BC earning more than $300 a month just from those referrals Shopping thru BC and SAVING themselves money! All that can be yours for sticking a piece of paper in the box before you ship it. Anyway that's my tip -it's free and easy. Check out the link on my page if you think you'd like to give it a go... I have been a member for about 3 years and only recently started to get referrals after I saw what the others (who joined about the same time as me) are making.. Bummer I didn't start earlier.. but you can be getting that too in just a few years if you become a good seller. And there are forums on the site where the others list all kinds of other tips on how they get their referrals -everyone there is really helpful. Good luck to you. :-)

I hope so.. it seems like a pretty easy way to make some extra cash.. I can't believe how some of these top earners get there referrals... It all seems so easy and logical- although sometimes it helps to have the right job. One guy who works with a mortgage loan dept- hands out his bigcrumbs business cards to these new home owners.. and tells them how they can save so much money (which they are going to need to do -furnishing their new home) and gets people signing up left and right.. He is using the money he makes to help fund the building his own home. :-)

If you look online, not just on eBay but in other places as well, you will find items that you can buy in bulk. If you work out the unit cost for each of the items you've got on sale, you will be able to see whether or not you think you would be able to sell them at higher than that price in order to make a profit. Usually, the most you buy in bulk, the more profit you will be able to make on them. Make sure you know exactly how much postage will be though, as you don't want to make a profit on the item, only to have to spend your profits on posting the thing because you haven't done your calulations properly!

I'm a new seller in ebay as well. I ocassionally buy stuffs too. I don't list my stuffs regularly though, but somehow I did manage to get sales here and there . I'm thinking about getting more serious with it, because the profit margin is pretty handsome. You may want to take a good look at your listings. Make sure you optimize your tittle with keywords. Avoid words like L@@k! or gorgeous or wow because buyers won't input them in the search bar. Take good pictures, write good descriptions. Take time to read some useful discussion at ebay board, they are extremely helpful. Good luck and hope you get many sales!

hi there alwayzzcitra Well I did give it a whirl but I resent having to pay them for placing the item for sale and their fees once you have sold the item. More hassle than it is worth unless you are selling a lot of stuff regularly. Thanks for responding.

Me~ I am still selling (and occasionally buying) at ebay. But yes, it's not that easy to sell without much marketing. Although their customized feature does provide attention to attract buyers, I don't opted for them till now because of the additional cost. It would be good if you can do weekly or bi-weekly maintaining your auction, providing details with exact description on the auction item and also, ensure to have the terms and conditions stated clearly. As a buyer, I think one thing to note is the seller's reputation and the S&H cost. Some items have low bid price but they have very high S&H. Bad experience? Well, I have plenty and mainly it's from fussy buyers and non-paying bidders. Don't really want to go into detail about it but just beware of such people.

I have sold some items on Ebay. My advice: 1.) Have an attractive title of your listing. Make sure it's placed in a right category that Ebayers will see your item. 2.) You must describe your item with lots of details from each scratches or if it's almost like new condition. Especially if you are going to put your item with the "No Return" option. 3.) Have lots of pictures of your item from different angles. If you have an account with Photobucket and know how to use HTML codes, upload photos to your photobucket accout and use the HTML code to post it in your description area. It'll save you some fee charges. 4.) Be reasonable with your shipping charges. I hate seeing people with shipping costing $10 for something that weighs less than one pound. Those people are trying to make more profit with the shipping. 5.) Communication is very important. I always put "Please ask me any questions before bidding" on my description and most of the time buyers do ask me questions. 6.) Be very clear on when and what payment options you accept. Also be very clear what country you are able to ship too and how long it'll take you to ship the item once you receive payment. 7.) If the item doesn't sell then post it up again. If it doesn't sell again, wait a few months and try again. Most importantly, if you are new to Ebay and hardly have many feedbacks, you really have to do #2 & 3 for people to actually buy from a newbie. I only have one bad experience and that was a person not paying me at all. Never replied my messages or anything. So I had to open a case and luckily Ebay took off my fees. But other than that I've had 100% as my feedback on selling and buying. From time you will learn on what items sells and what items doesn't sell.

I have been selling on eBay for close to 10 years now. eBay is not the sellers market it was 5 years ago. Used to be you could put anything and everything on there and you knew SOMEONE would buy it. Now you have to do some research and make sure somehting will sell before you list it. There is a completed items option on the search feature that you can use to see what similar items have ended recently and how much they sold for (or if they sold at all). Take pictures like there is no description and describe it like there are no pictures. Be very honest and make sure you are up to date on all the policies (go to teh forums on eBay under the community tab, they are very informative) Ship fast, try to get it in the mail within 24 hours. You can print the shipping labels on eBay and save some postage (they give you a discount). Make sure you get delivery confirmation for everything. There are buyers on there who will try to scam you and claim they never received it if you do not add delivery confirmation. Other than that, just browse the forums on ebay and you can learn alot. Good luck!!

Hi there devildog683 Thanks for the good advice. To be honest that is what I am worried about is some buyer saying they never recieved or it arrived broken or ripped and I will have to give them the money back and I will lose out. I guess that is the risk you take but I always get a proof of purchase when I mail the stuff off, always. Thanks again for your advice and of course your response
