Dust. How do YOU get rid of it?

In cleaning my house this weekend I started thinking once more about the amount of dust that I get in my house, and what I can do to reduce it. I get SO MUCH dust! I know I need to have my furnace cleaned and a new filter put on it, but other than that... I really don't know what else to do. I have been using a tea tree oil spray (tea tree oil mixed in a spray bottle of water) on my carpet to help kill dust mites and that seems to work somewhat, but I guess I need to do it more often than I do. Anyone have any great ways to help cut down on dust? Please share. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to know! :)

Hi Shira0524, my post response will be a bit different, I know most peeps would suggest to remove their shoes before they enter the house(which is great). But in my case I don't have a shoes I only use a wheelchair. So I have no choice but to bring my ride with me inside the house then I'll just transfer to my other wheelchair the (one that I use in our house) So I just swipe the floor with our mop to clean the track of dirt left by my other wheelchair.

I guess that makes sense since in your case the wheels are like your shoes! :) That's great though, that you take the time to do that every day.

To get rid of any dust and germs on the laminate floors what i do is use a steam cleaner on the floors.I also constantly have my carpets washed and wash pillows and duvets. When it comes to my childrens cuddly toys i also wash them in the washing machine aswell. My husband hoovers all the mattresses every other month as they also have dust mites,so they say on the tv.I use a damp cloth on furniture as that collcts the dust up better than polishing it with polish.

Oh! I definitely think I need to steam clean my carpets again, yeah. It's been a year. Maybe this time what I'll do is add the tea tree oil to the steam clean. I probably need to get my couch done as well. Thanks for reminding me, haha.

Hello there! How to get rid of dust? I can't answer that question properly because the only chore that I do is cleaning my own room. I just sweep the floor and wipe some dust in my table and windows but it's not that much. My mom is usually the one doing household chores and I always notice her early in the morning using feather dust and wet rag to clean to get rid of the dirt and it works fine for her. =)

Yes, I think I need to exchange my duster for a damp rag as well. I read on the same site about the tea tree oil solution to use that on surfaces, which I am going to start doing this week. We shall see how much it helps! :)

I can never fully clear my room of dust it seems. It can get rather annoying, but the fact that I don't have carper in my room doesn't help. With just a hard floor, and perhaps a rug, the dust collects into a hair ball so to speak and I will just find them randomly on my floor, pretty sick. When I clean my room. I use a broom and dustpan, swifters, and a rag to scrub and wipe clean where needed. It really is a never ending battle! As long as we try to clean often, we might at least cut back on the amount of dust.

In actuality, it's probably a lot easier for you to keep dust down than anyone who has a carpet. I wish I didn't have carpets, and had area rugs only. Carpets are breeding grounds, quite literally, for dust mites and vacuums can never really get them that clean. So take pride in your non-carpeted floors! :) You'd probably have three times as much dust if you didn't have that.

Hello shira. I use wet towel to get rid of the dust falling on the furniture. This way it does not fly anywhere to somewhere else. This is what I do. But if I clean my top tile floor, I use water and it works well for me. Good day.

To get rid of dust is we must adopt some daily habits like when moving in and out of our house, our shoes are the number one factor for the transport of dust and soil in our houses. We must wipe our shoes before going inside the house or just place our shoes outside the house.

Majority here seems to be having the same problem. I have that problem too and sometimes they accumulate and become hard to remove. I just wet a piece of cloth to remove them from hard surfaces

We can never get rid of dust no matter if we cleaned our houses every single hour, but we reduce dust at home. To reduce dust we must get rid of the things which dust like to settle on. And start dusting now.

I don't know if you can get rid of dust as it seems to come back so quick. It's an endless chore. We need to open the windows for the fresh air but along with that more dust comes in. Kleenex make a lot of dust. So does the breakdown of out clothes and socks. Keep dusting!
