Hic-cup...how do you get rid of it???

i'm sure that everyone of you must be getting hic-cups some day or the other and many of you may be having some way or the other to get rid of it, for some hic-cups may be irritating as it is to me, so to get rid of it i just take deep breathe in and out with my eyes closed to get rid of it and the hic-cups are gone for good. i know some people drink water or eat sugar or lie on the bed or must be doing something or the other. Whats your way of getting rid of it...i'm sure there might be some funny instances also...so go ahead and tell happy mylotting.

classic. i remember my mother's instructions to take in deep breaths and hold for a few seconds and do a number of times, maybe 5 or so. then after a while, it will stop. then i was surprised to see my patient getting a plastic bag and seemingly started to suffocate himself. he started breathing in the plastic using the same air that's inside the bag. it was quite long, maybe almost a minute or even more that he inhaled and exhaled through the plastic bag. i told him, he should have used a paper bag. but as soon as i said that, he stopped and his hiccup was gone. i was surprised.

actually, when he finished doing that, he was gasping of air. but now, i think there is a relation between his way and holding your breath. don't you think? maybe it's about increasing your carbon dioxide level in your body that will stop the hiccup.

I agree, they are irritating. I drink a glass of water to get rid of it. But do you know why we get hiccups?

According to Scientific American, hiccups are often blamed on the irritation of the phrenic nerve which is a nerve leading to the diaphragm or the diaphragm itself. It can also be caused by neurological lesions or metabolic disorders. Medications are possible culprits, too, particularly those that promote acid reflux.

If I have hiccup, I will drink a big cup of water. Or I will take a big deep breath and it is helpful. This method is easy and effective. I love China

Ask someone to surprise you. Hiccup is a way of your system to inform you that's there's something wrong inside. It acts more like a warning. One of the ways to get rid of it, is to divert your brain's attention to something else. A surprise should be a surprise, something unexpected. Other's try to pop a paper. if it won't work just try drinking water and breath deeply.

I drink water when i get hiccups, not the usual way of drinking water, i drink it continuously without a break in between. this makes me get rid of hiccups. this is just when i experience it normally, but then, if hiccups don't stop even after drinking water, i just hold my breath for about 30 seconds or so, which helps a lot.any kind of irritating hiccup can be stopped by this process.

What i have learned to get rid of hiccups, you do deep breathing exercise. It is because hiccups signals the body that we need oxygen or some kinda like that. Someone also told me to drink water. I don't know the rationale though.

i think you can get rid of hiccups when you drink too much water... that's what we always do - actually most of us here.. and well it works for us. :D

Yes hic-cups are really annoying and my ways of getting rid of hic-cups was I drinks plenty of water..But I will try your technique next..

Hi richclass2! Well yeah I am a bit feeling not comfortable when I am having Hicups!I just normally drink some few glasses of water to get rid of it but there are really times that it's just saying no matter what I do!I just figured out that when I am acting panic,then it's much more,so I normally stay relax then in some minutes,It will go away.

Haha, hiccups are interesting and irritating to me, to be ironic. But I get rid of them by either taking a SUPER deep breath or drinking lots of water, or even BOTH! Sometimes taking a deep breath won't work so I'll drink lots of water down after holding my breath. It works, though.

Hi! I agree hiccups are really irritating and what I usually do to get rid of it is drink water or any beverage and do as many swallows as possible. But there's this funny way of getting rid of it too...If you notice a friend who has hiccups, sneak up on them and give then a good jolt(but be careful though...hahaha!)then, you'll "scare" away the hiccups. :)

take 2 slices of lemon or lime and put worcestershire sauce and suck on it. it really works! i know it sounds gross but it works! Don't knock it till you try it!! hehe..

they say drink milk while on a handstand, but i do is i try to reach my back by my hand reaching my nape and elbows over my head. then i take a deep breath... after that no hiccups

I drink water while holding my breath. The hiccups are usually gone when I have taken nine gulps. It works like a charm for me.

I just drink water for as long as I can. Sometimes, I need to do it twice, but in the end, it works for me. It's the method that I prefer and it's the method that works for me and it has for a long time.

here's how.. This ALWAYS works for me... ALWAYS. Take teaspoon of sugar and place it on your tongue.. then suck on it and let it slowly dissolve... Bye the time it is gone.. so are your hiccups...!!!

I've tried lots of things, but then my wife insisted I drank some water. It works. I don't know why, but it does. When I get the hiccups, I drank some water, and it's gone.

As far as i know, hiccup is a lack of air in the lungs so drinking water could help. And yes breathe in and breathe out. Why not exercise too.. Hope I helped you. :D

In our country, if you get hicupps, it is said that, somebody is remembering you. There are a few ways to get rid of hicupps, but before that one should know the reason behind it's arisal. Hiccupps occur because of lacking of carbon di oxide in our body. It seems crazy but when we inhale carbondiaoxide gets into our body. Follow any or all of the below ways, 1. Drink atleast a full glass of water or even more of it. 2. Breathe longer and faster for atleast 3 minutes. 3. Eat Sugar, two or three spoons. Happy Hickking. Ha Ha.
