The best way to make him less active is to exercise him before a training session. Take your bike or your roller blades and make him run next to you for half an hour. This will burn a lot of his energy, and he will be more calm during the training session. You can use a treadmill instead of the bike or roller blades. (if you can convince him to run on the treadmill ) As he is so active, I think is better to have more short training sessions a day instead of one long class. Use as a reward the thing he likes the most. It can be food, a toy or just praise. You know better what he likes the most. But make sure he pays attention to you during classes, if he starts loosing his interest, it means the session was already too long. Be firm, but calm during training sessions. If he gets up from the sit position, you put him back in the sit position with a firm, but calm command. Repeat this until he gets what you want from him. Good luck!

I agree with inu, these are good tips. I want to add one that many people don't realize is important. This is a mistake many make and that is allowing the dog to take charge. Dogs are pack animals where there is an alpha, the one who is the boss. In your home, YOU must be the alpha for the dog to listen. Years ago we had a deaf dalmatian and in order to show her who is the alpha, we had to pin her down as in make her lie down and using a little of your weight, (not all of it, you are not hurting th dog, just preventing them from getting up), and you make them lie there until they surrender. You can tell they see you as the alpha when they stop fighting to get up. Another thing I do with my 2 puppies because they are also active, is what their mom would do, grab them by the scruff of the neck. It doesn't hurt them, but since "mom" did this, the dog will see you as you are in charge, they are not.

That explains a lot. No dog should be separated from its mother and litter mates till it is at least 8 weeks old. No reputable breeder will part with a pup earlier and any attempting to must be reported to the authorities. Firstly, the dog cannot be healthy separated so early as it needs antibodies in the mothers milk during this time, therefore early separation is cruel. Secondly, during this time the mother dog disciplines the pup, from which it learns the social skills it needs to be trainable, without these the dog is not really a dog, any-more than a human raised by animals would be a person Never, ever buy a dog that has not remained with its mother and litter mates till at least 8 weeks old all the best urban

Maybe you need the help of a professional dog trainer. Labradors are hard to trains if you did not start training when still young. They are breeds of dogs who loves to play and play.
