Biotechnology Exhibit..help!

My sister is a BS Biology student, they will be conducting an exhibit for the Science and Technology Week in their school. The assigned topic to them is biotechnology, an interesting field. There are lots of subjects to choose from but they can't decide which, they can't afford those expensive ones... They need to showcase something which is very interesting but not too complicated, less expensive and easy to do. As of now they're are still working on it. Can you please suggest possible subjects that are simple and easy to do? In your place what are the latest in biotechnology world? Thank you very much!
