Hehe, a topic out of an idea i got from a friend, who we feel is not always listening and is always seemingly not in her right mind everytime the group is talking - she always answers something not related to our topic. or sometimes she asks what we were talking about while we see her 'listening'!!! She said its her and her ears - which happens to have a "selective hearing". Its like she never hears anything when she is not interested...?! I just think its rather a silly idea... hehe do you know someone who is like this ? someone who seems to never really understand what people talk about especially in groups??

Hi Chiyosan!. Its does sound silly, I mean if you chat with a friend we had to listen them as we want them to listen to us, no matters how we not interested in it. I don't have a friend like this but I know few people like this we usually call them lemot (slow thinker because they brain absorb information really slowly).

I have learned how to be selective with what I chose to hear as I found that many where selective as well. I just got tired of repeating myself so here on in I have become selective.

i've learned about this idea when i was still training agents for telemarketing. Yes there are people who does selective listening. It is normal for us to 'hear' people talking because, yes, we do have ears. and when something produce sound we recognize the sound and we hear it. Hearing is different from listening because the moment you understood what you heard and you respond to it, that's the only moment you say you listened. selective listening is when you pick words out of sentences or phrases and concludes from that. you don't actually understand the whole perspective of the topic being discussed. so when your group talk and your friend catches a word that interest her she would assume something out of it and will eventually respond in a not so related way.

Guilty as charge! Hehehe. I am one of them. Selective listening eh? It's because sometimes my mind keeps wandering. Like if I'm worried about something or thinking about something. Even if it looks as if I'm with the group listening, then somebody will ask me some question, I couldn't reply because I'm not really listening. :)
