First thing while choosing a web hosting company, check whether they are having good uptime. (If a site frequently has problem in loading or slow, people go away gradually.) Next, they should not spread viruses and trojans. That means, their server should be protected by latest best antivirus and firewall. Bandwidth comes next. Initially, normally there won't be a large number of visitors. So we can go for limited bandwidth initially. As the number of visitors increase, we can go for unlimited bandwidth. (Bandwidth is, in simple terms, download limit.) In my experience, brinkster.com are a good webhosting company. (My site is free, but their service excellent for a free account holder like me. So, their support for paid members, should be better than mine, I suppose.)

abhi_bangal it really depends on the needs, like for myself I would want something that could run WPMU therefore the choices are limited. before you sign up any host, you might want to sent them an email to tell them what you intent to do and see if they are able to support your plans.
