How was is it for your family growing up? Do you think kids who grow up in a family with lots of money work hard to have a better career? What about kids who grow up with a family having to struggle to make ends meet are the kids forced to work hard and take what job comes there way? Are you making enough money to get by or do you have money you can just throw away or have whatever you want?

I grew up middle class which is what I call growing up with balance. We didn't want for much, but were also taught that we had to work for extras. I feel fortunate enough to be middle class in my adult life. It's what I call comfortable. However, I haven't forgotten what its like to be poor like I was when I first moved out on my own.

I like the word you use balance. I guess that is what I am teaching my children. They have not had to want for much cause I didn't grow up with a family with money. My 2 daughters who are old enough to be on their own are doing just as I did. They are working for what the want now. I still help them out just to make it easier on them sometimes and they don't really like accepting because they feel I should be doing for my husband and myself. It's good to know you've raised kids that appreciate lifes lessons.

I grew up middle class, and my parents made a comfortable living. However, my mother had grown up very poor, and all she wanted to do was save, save, save. As a result, I didn't have the nice clothes and things my friends had. I remember a friend in 9th grade telling me, "At last you finally have some good clothes" because I was wearing a new outfit I'd gotten for Christmas. I guess it didn't hurt me, though, and I still don't want to spend a lot of money on clothes.
