Deuteronomy 22:28-29 (King James Version) 28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

I don't think the rape victim would want to marry her rapist.

i agree with redhotpogo that we should consider the times here. it is part of the culture before that the man must marry the woman he raped. For some samples, i too have found that for Filipinos before, when a woman was done such a wrong, she is forced to be married to the guy too so she is saved from being "shamed" as it is not really acceptable in the society before that a woman is not virgin when another man marries her. I do not agree that God wants man to do such act and get away with it by marrying the person. And yes, this is where the differences of the old and new testament comes in.

I'm not sure it is actually talking about rape. But if it is, then consider the times. A woman that was raped was an outcast. This is forcing people to take responsibility for their actions. Some guys would rather go to prison then be forced to be married to a chick for their entire lives.
