My husband and I recently took a safari in the Kruger National Park and I was totally blown away! The beauty of the park and being able to see all the animals up close in their environment and not behind cages is amazing and the way things should be. We were able to see elephants from 5 feet away and saw how the young were protected by its parents, we saw lions eating a buffalo, a cheetah taking a nap, leopard walk across the street in front of our car and Hippos in the dozens to name just a few. To all those who have been on a true safari before, what animals did you see and share some stories with us. To all others, do you plan on going on safari anytime soon?

What a wonderful trip! My family is saving up to go on a safari in a few years, although my kids also want to go to China and Antarctica, so we have a lot of pennies to save! Our "nature adventure" this year will be to go snorkeling near Aruba/Curacao (the kids are a little young for scuba diving). We took them snorkeling in Florida and they loved it, so I am sure this will be even better. Thanks for sharing your inspiring vacation story!

We are planning on going for a week to Aruba or US Virgin islands in December to snorkel etc. There is so much to see in the world and feel for kids its important to experience new travels and cultures. I suggest we both create travel logs and blogs hehe.

I haven't been, would love to go. My parents went about 20 years ago and had a great time, except for the Kenya crud, that is...

I am really glad that you and your husband had a superb time on your safari in the Kruger National Park. When I was in my mid twenties I traveled to Kenya and went on a five day safari there. I went to the Masai Mara and Lake Nakaru. I saw a female and a male lion. The male lion was eating and looked most content. It was funny to have the minibus stop and wonder why. There was in fact a leopard asleep up the tree. It was amazing to see the elephants but we got too close to them I think. I saw some hippos having a great time in the mud. It was interesting to see a few rhinos. I saw plenty of giraffes and zebras. Last year I took my disabled toddler son to Cape Town and the Garden Route. I took my son a jeep ride around a game reserve. It was lovely to show him the lions. We also saw some giraffes, rhinos, zebras and crocodiles. There was so much to see that we were a bit late for our taxi ride back to the coast. A safari is a special experience which is well worth doing. I have had the added bonus of meeting the Masai Mara tribe.

Sounds like you had an amazing experience and time in Kenya. The garden route is something we want to do next year as we don't have enough time to do it all this trip. Did you by any chance do the bunjy jump there which is the highest in the world?

I went on safari in Kruger about four years ago. I really enjoyed it. We got to see all of the big five. I also enjoyed seeing the different types of birds and identifying them.

in Indonesia, there also tourist attractions such as what you mean. The name is Taman Safari Indonesia. I've visit it several times. Unfortunately, there are no African elephants, only Asian elephants but the African animals other than elephants, keep exists over there. I plan to visit there again by following the program of safari night ... hmmh .. certainly be exciting, can see wildlife activity at night

The night time drives are amazing but you won't see the animals as clearly but certain animals only come out at night when they can hunt with ease. You can tell what an animal is by its eyes, cats have a certain color and the bucks another etc. Post some pics when you go back.

I have always dreamed of going on a safari and the Kruger National Park is indeed high up on my list! But I haven't had a chance to go yet, I am afraid.
