I am just curious. What if you don't have a cd/dvd drive, can you copy all the files from an OS installer to a USB storage device and load install it to your system?

i know u can install from a usb. but you may, only if you run your os. then after logging into windows, insert your usb and install. but if that is not the case. say from start up. you won't be able to do that. unless it is windows 98. but to install 98. you must have your hardisk formatted into fat32. not ntfs. you can start from a usb but it requires to have an advance bios that allows startup from usb. hay.. well.. to make it short.. you can but it's complicated.

Yes, you can. However, you'd need to get the installer and make some changes to your USB drive so that it is detected as a bootable drive rather than just storage. I use this method to install Ubuntu and Jolicloud (Linux OS) onto my netbooks.

There are several steps in order to install OS using USB Flash Drive. Please check the below address on how to install XP using USB Flash Drive. http://installxpusingusbflashdrive.blogspot.com/

Unfortunately, no; because you'll need to boot from the usb to install your OS, and simply copying the install files won't make your usb bootable. However, there is a way (there always is), but you'll need either 2 usb sticks (one for booting, the other one containing the OS installation files), or you'll need to partition your usb into a boot partition and a data partition, with the data partition containing your OS install files.

Hey I want to know the process of installing an OS only by using a USB device. I don’t know what is the process of installing it from a USB device. I saw many times because mostly peoples install OS from USB drive. I think this is a good way for installing OS. So I want to know how I can do it. Can you tell me more about it? And tell me the process of it.
