Perhaps most importantly, study abroad offers a chance to understand another culture, and to better understand your own culture. Some people agree that study abroad programs "empower students to better understand themselves and other through a comparison of cultural values and ways of life." What's your opinion on this question?

Hello, A rather sentimental approach to the issue. In economic and social terms, I think they are a great loss for their country. The reason behind their leaving their country is the same age old reason for human migration - better opportunities. Though I consider it a rather selfish approach of dealing with one's career, sometimes it's regarded as the best decision. A country spends a lot to educate each of these students. So, the students should demonstrate some gratitude by actively contributing to their nation. Unfortunately not many of us actually have that level of nationalism. However these immigrants often learn to value their own culture at the late middle age of their life when it's too late to start over. Thanks. God bless you.

Thanks for your response. Maybe some things were right just as you said. But I don't think it make a great loss for their mother country. After all, only a part of them choose to live at the foreign country at last. With the development of economic globalization, we need more and more communication with the other culture, people and something else. Each year, thousands of U.S.students choose to spend a semester abroad in all sorts of places. So I think students go to study abroad also can give benefit for their country.

For me, there are two possible reason why student go abroad to study. Here in the Philippines, most of the family are not satisfied with the education offered by most of our schools. If there are good schools , a family need to have enough money to enroll their student from primary to tertiary education. another reason may be, is that the education the student want is not available in their nation. students want to have good education for them to become competent in our recent days.

Yes, I agree with what you said. In my country, the reasons that students go to study abroad are nearly the same as you said.

well some student do it for the experience, for experiencing a different culture, and a different kind of lifestyle...and to meet new people as well..... while some students, they go into thinking that better quality education is out there, not here.... some students can afford it, so why not. for those who can't, i think there's nothing wrong with getting education locally.

Yes, you are right. Students studying abroad could have more experience in a foreign country. But this have little relation with the quality education locally. After all, only a few of students can afford the cost to study abroad in every year.

I agree. Also, studying overseas allows students to become more independent and responsible of their actions.
