Where do I go in Hongkong if I have $500 for a week? First, allocate 20-50USD/night for hostel/hotel stay. There are several choices available for backpackers and budget travellers. Some even offering free breakfast with the accomodation, shuttle services and/or half-day city tours. Second, buy an Octopus card which you can use for riding the buses and trains. There are available 1-day, 3-day, 1-wk ride-all-you-can for tourists at discounted prices. Deposits are refundable. Now for the fun part. My top 3 picks to spend my hard-earned dollars are: Hongkong Disneyland, Ocean Park, and Madam Tissaud's Wax Museum. These places are worth every penny. Spend a day each at Disneyland and Ocean Park to enjoy all their sights, shows, and rides. I need not elaborate. But I guarantee you'll have a grand time there. Where else can you stand side by side with great World icons? See them immortalized at The Wax Museum located at the Victoria's Peak. Take pictures with Gandhi, Clinton, Princess Di, MJ, Madonna, and that cute guy from "Winter Sonata". And when you're done stiking poses, enjoy the scenic beauty of Hongkong at the top of the building (hence, "The Peak") There are several other sites which will cost you less or none at all - botanical gardens, museums, temples, and the likes. Shopping? Yeah, Hong Kong is a haven for high end shoppers. But for "budget shoppers", I say skip the ladies market and other night markets. The merchandise aren't that great. Spend your money on sight seeing and food instead. Happy touring! P.S. Since, you'll be in Hongkong for a week, drop by Macau too for a day tour. It will be a nice addition to your trip.

Hi clairekorea! I have been there several times but I would still want to visit the place if I may. A little budget it seems, you can still enjoy the rest of HK for sure . From the responses I have read here, buying an octopus card is one great option. Commuting using their efficient train system is so easy. Do not use taxi cabs for it is expensive and most HK taxi drivers do not speak English. Do not forget to secure a map first. A lot of free maps can be found almost anywhere so that you will be able to prioritize which place you wanted to see first. For my recommendations: 1. Hongkong Disneyland 2. Ocean Park 3. The Peak 4. Tsim Sha Tsui 5. Mongkok How I wish I could join you and be your tour guide. Haha! Enjoy and have a happy trip! :)

When I visited Hong Kong I stayed a the youth hostel on the top of Mount Davis. I liked the amazing views over the city. At night it looked really wonderful. I think that it is enjoyable to go to a tram ride. It is superb to go shopping. I liked getting a boat and bus to a place on one of the outer laying islands. I think that staying in a backpackers hostel and seeing some things like I have mentioned that $500 would be enough.

Hi, I been to Hongkong twice and it is a great place for holiday and also categorised as shopping paradise. Of course, if you were to stay in hotel, it cost more, therefore I choose to stay in hostel. The place is convenient and the price is reasonable. The best is the room is simple and nice. Not a big room, but enough to accomodate us and we just need to have a rest after a walk for whole day. As for the food,it cost expensive too, most of the time, we will just have simple food at the roadside shop.We only been to restaurant once for the dimsum, but it cost more ,however, the taste is superb. I believe with $500 in a week, you still can enjoy yourself in Hongkong, but need to be efficient in your spending.

Why not go to Disney World, or the sea world in HongKong. Although Hk is not a big place, but you can spend some quality time over there with merely $500 U.S. dollars right. So, do you live at HK, or are you a tourist there. I never been there, but I saw a Video which introduce HK as a great place for shopping only. I don't intend to shop there, because I can't afford it.

Hi clairekorea A cheap place to stay is at the hostels is on Nathon Road in Tsim Sha Tui Kin.Room should not cost any more than 150 Hong Kong dollars per night. The rooms are really small, but are safe and clean. If you go along the walk of stars by the Star Ferry it is free as are the museums on Wedesdays. If you like hiking go to Macleod Trail and you will see wild monkeys, just do not try to feed them, it is against the law. There are other trails if you like I could share them with you. There are great beaches as well. I do not go shopping so I can not help you there, but if you go on the internet to Hong Kong expats you should find what you are looking for Have fun.I do every time I go there
