Hi Guys, which is better to get HMO (Health Maintenance Organization) or HEALTH insurance. For HMO, what can you say about MEDICARD? Is it a good HMO? What can you advise? for the health insurance, which is better Sunlife or Philam? I want to get one for my family, but I don't know which one to choose. There are different types of it, i'm confused. I want with sickness, accident & dismemberment and death benefits. Is there any insurance that will also provide outpatient and consultation? Please advise. Thank you.

You can try Maxicare. Ive heard a lot about this HMO and they also have competitive rates. They have a wide range of network too. Unfortunately, since it is an HMO, they do not offer out-patient benefits for medicines. As for the consultation, you just have to ensure that you go to a coordinator so that they can refer you to their line of doctors. For the Life Insurance, best known for that is Philam. For the personal accident coverage, you can try Insurance Co. of North America. ACE-INA can provide all those options. Are you currently employed or on your own?

Hi Greceekwenx! I am currently employed (overseas).. Our company is not providing HMO or any insurance. I want it for my husband and daughter in Philippines.. Being sick is really financially draining. I already experienced that in my own self..I learned from it. Here I wasn't able to get one for myself coz it's really expensive and coverage is limited for individuals. I hope I could get one for them,at least for my family if not for me..Currently I'm searching for HMO who's providing good service and which are affordable.. I'm thinking also for health insurance.. What you think would be better, getting HMO or Health insurance?

Hi alyser. Good thing you told me about your status. Health insurance takes the form of either hospitalization insurance or HMO. The problem with hospitalization insurance is that it is offered to companies only and not to a baby group like a family health insurance. I have heard of ACE-INA having health insurance but their coverage is practically for room & board allowance. They call it the hospital daily income benefit. As for the HMOS, there is Medicard, Intellicare, Cocolife and Maxicare. I have heard many good things about Maxicare. Their premium is around 42k per head and has a maximum benefit of 60k per illness. The advantage of HMO is that you just present the card and your patient goes home without paying anything. Well... almost anything as long as you do not exceed the 60k. You can also avail of out-patient services but you have to go to their coordinators for referrals.
