The discussion about "Animes are not for kids" got me thinking about the values and morals we learn from watching anime. Can anyone share what they learned?

The main thing I learnt from anime is that nothing is as bad as it seems, and to never give up. It's not so much the story itself that makes me feel this, but the characters that portray it so. No matter what, as long as I keep a cool head and try to see the best in everything, eventually, I will. There are very rarely true endings. There's only real beginnings. That's what I learnt the most.

I agree completely. Also i've heard that phrase before in an anime but i can't recall where. I love that phrase that there's no real ending, only beginnings =D

hi there! i myself is not a fan of anime but i do watch them. and i believe that we can really learn something from it, although some looks violent but when you really look into it and its story, you will see that the main character really possess an outstanding character. just like with naruto, my husband really like this one and he once told me that naruto is probably one of the best. as i observed, most characters in anime don't give up, they are also loyal friends till the end and they are usually positive thinkers.

yes, and that answers the question'what good can e get in watching anime's. because that's usually the question being asked by people who are not into anime's just like my mom asking my father and my brother why they are like crazy following those anime's. hehe aside from entertainment, we can also get lots of good values on it.

I agree completely, and great example with naruto. Since naruto is a violent and action type anime, people wouldn't think that the real lesson of the anime is friendship and hard work.

hello friend I personally am not a big fan of animes well i do agree that there are a lot of morals to be learned from animes. 1. Honesty 2. Hardworking 3. Integrity 4. Optimism 5. Love The list has no end. In my opinion the animes are basically for the kids for the above reasons

Sorry to hear that you're not a big fan of animes. But i agree completely with your list. Honesty, hardworking and love always strikes me when i watch anime all the time. And its true that the list has no end.

I somewhat agree that cartoons might be more suitable for kids mostly because of violence but kids watching animes also helps them understand and grow more into understanding the complicated storyline and the logic behind the anime. The more they watch the more they understand it.

That discussion would probably true depending on the anime they are talking about. Just like movies and tv shows there are certain animes that aren't appropriate for children and need parental guidance. I've grown up watching anime and the thing that I notice is that, the animes that I've seen almost always have morals to teach children -which always happens in animes related to games or fight themed animes. There's always these lessons about friendship and camaraderie. You could also learn how to deduct things or analyze in detective/police themed anime. Something I also notice is that not all handsome guys or bishounens are the good guys, you can't judge a book by its cover and well, despite the genre being about war and such they are talking about peace almost all through out the anime. Imaginations of children are also stimulated because of the anime and somehow they get a sort of idol to follow, like they want to be as strong and honest as this guy so they try not to do bad things as well. Still, we should be careful in the types of anime we let the children see and if they ask its better to honestly but simply tell them things.

When this discussion topic caught my eye, what came to mind instantly was the anime 'Fruits Basket'. If you haven't seen it before, I highly recommend it. My favorite little bit is when the lead character speaks about the plum stuck to the back of a riceball is like the amazing qualaties in another person. The riceball can see the next riceball's plum, and wishes it for its own, as it can't see the plum on its own back. "I know you can't see it, but I see it very clearly: there's a great big plum on your back". This might sound kiddy and childish, but if you can look beyond the metaphor, there's an excellent lesson to be learned by this.

I LOVE anime, and I definitely think there is a lot to be learned from them! For example, friendship- being a friend until the end, no matter what. I think forgiveness is a huge theme in a lot of animes and I think it helps people to be more forgiving. Understanding, empathy... etc. There are so many things to be learned from in anime!

A fellow anime lover =D I agree that friendship is always something you learn in most animes you watch no matter what genre it is. Forgiveness i see a lot in most romance, comedy and similar genre of anime but i don't see a lot of them in most action, adventure and those types of genre. And there are a lot of things to be learned from animes!

Totally! And I would consider Cowboy Bebop to be a sort of action anime, as well as Trigun and I would argue that there is a great deal of forgiveness there. Oh, and I forgot- not judging people! That is always a reocurring theme in almost all types of anime!
