Does working in computer for a long period of time will damage your eyes?

I believe this is true especially if you work/stare/utilize the computer screen from morning to afternoon.I recently had an eye examination and i was told that I can be damaging my eyes by using the computer too much.So i was prescribed by the optometrist to wear glasses with anti radiation lenses.This gives my eyes extra protection from the direct and indirect glare that my eyes can see. Also take time to refresh your eyes by dropping Eye mo or whatever is convenient for you even water maybe. My only concern is that its too difficult to stare at the monitor screen during night time especially if you are sharing a room with someone and you have to turn off the main lights.It puts me in a situation where my eyes really get strained and i can feel like its palpitating.When this happens i have no choice but to sleep and rest my eyes.
