If anyone has a either one of these dogs please let me know which you would recommend for protection in a family environment . Does it matter if it's a female or a male ?

I had a Rottweiler in the past and currently have a german shepherd. I'd say that both breeds are excelent choices and loyal companians. You can't go wrong with either one

A dog is, to a large extent, what you make it. Many breeds make good guard dogs and will protect a family well. Having said that, the Shepherd is superior in several important ways. Firstly, they have a natural tendency to be very protective of their owners. Secondly, it has been shown that despite its smaller statue and less weight a Shepard is more able to bring a man down, due to technique. Thirdly, Shepherds warn before they attack and Rottweilers may not. all the best urban
