This is not the first time I’ve seen an episode of CSI: New York. I’ve seen several from the cable channel AXN. But this will be the first time I’m going to follow a current season of the show. From the few episodes I’ve seen from past seasons, I thought CSI: New York was worth following. It’s definitely better than CSI: Miami, which I don’t watch anymore, even the re-runs. The first thing I noticed on the first episode was that Detective Stella was gone! I thought the character got killed in a previous episode, but there’s a scene where Lindsay was reading a letter from Stella, and it says she was now assigned in New Jersey. I think. I searched the web and found out the actress who played Stella (Melina Kanakaredes) left the show. I was sad about it, I thought her chemistry with Gary Sinise was awesome, and I liked her! She was replaced with top caliber actress Sela Ward, who I only know of from movies. CBS seem to be getting a lot of these top movie actors and hiring them as regular casts on their shows. It probably started with Gary Sinise as the lead here in CSI: New York. Then they got Lawrence Fishburne for CSI (the Las Vegas version). Will they get a new one for Miami as well? The show starts with (from what I read on the Internet after watching the show) the culmination of last season’s finale, which would be a very tense cliffhanger! A serial killer called Shane Casey enters Danny and Lindsay’s apartment and took their baby hostage. Lindsay was a good shooter though and shot Casey dead (while he was still clutching the baby!) 5 months later, she receives a medal for her courage. Or for shooting a bad man dead. Throughout the episode we see her struggle with the fact that she has killed a person. With the help of her friends in her job, she was able to cope with it. The case was about a dead body found inside the CSI premises itself. Detective Jo Danville, played by Sela, found the body herself after she entered an empty CSI office (it was empty because everyone was at the medal-awarding ceremony). She wasn’t pissed off about it though. I probably would have. We then go see them in their usual crime-solving ways. Jo appears to be a great logical thinker and problem solver, able to come up with details about the victim as if she has psychic powers. She was from the FBI, she said, so maybe she learned it from there. She’s like a female Sherlock Holmes. She doesn’t appear bossy either, and even has a sense of humor. I like her so far. Other than the shooting at the beginning of the episode, the case seem to be “normal”. And I am comparing it to other CSI episodes. Season premieres tend to be flashy and “explosive” in the literal sense and I didn’t get that feeling in the premiere.

It took me years to get "INTO" CSI NY too- I watched the other two faithfully and always thought NY was too dark. But I started watching the reruns on TV and realized what I have been missing- this is a really good show. I now do not watch CSI: Las Vegas with any regularity since they killed off Warrick and William Peterson decided to leave the show.(And I used to be addicted to this show but...) I still watch Miami but not with the enjoyment I get from watching NY. I love the character interactions here. I love Danny and Lindsay. I am a little upset that Flack lost Angell.. And I am very sad to see that Stella is gone I too agree that she was great. I am not sure how much I will like Sela Ward. I will try to keep an open mind. I hope losing Stella does not affect the whole feel of the show like it has on other shows.. MIAMI also lost some of my interest after they killed of Speed... This premiere did seem rather laid back.. I hope to see more action in the future.

Oh now that you mentioned it, I think my interest in CSI Miami started to wane after they killed of Speed. Not that I stopped watching because of it... I don't think I've even seen the episode he got killed off. Probably because they killed off a likable character way too early. Or I found the show too serious. In NY and LV they have that goofy guy for the humor and they don't have that in Miami. CSI Miami is too serious!
