Brown and Clear

When I drink alcohol, I tend to stick to the more clear alcohols such as Gin or Vodka versus "Brown" like Cognac, etc. I feel that the "brown" gets me a little more wasted than the other and more sick, too. I also feel that clear alcohol has a smoother taste and is easier on the stomach. How do you guys feel?? Brown or Clear??
