I love salads and make many different kinds. Some are heartier than others, more like whole meals, with protein and vegetables. One thing that makes a salad less healthy is the type and also the amount of dressing used. And, yes, you can eat too much of almost anything, though you can eat lots more lettuce than, say, cake.

Is there such thing as eating too much salad? None, I think, as long as its healthy. And how healthy a salad is depends on the choice of ingredients, especially the dressing. You may have the freshest and the greenest vegetable leaves or crispiest fruits, but drenching them with lots of mayo, thousand island, ceasars, or ranch dressing won't give you their full benefits. No matter what their label says - "lite", "zero fat", "low cholesterol" - it's still best to go easy on these types of dressing. Try whipping your own instead. Olive oil, salt, pepper, lime will do. There are several easy to make salad dressings/vinaigrettes with olive oil as base. Check them out. As for salad greens, the "greener" ones, forgive the pun, are better. Romaine and arugula lettuce are healthier than iceberg lettuce. Mix them up with tomatoes, carrots, or nuts and some proteins like chicken, or fish for a complete meal. Fruit salads? Eating fruits minus the cream is still better.
