This was the promise by DSWD Sec. Dinky Soliman when she was interviewed.. she is quite confident she can fulfill this goal that by dec. 2011 there will no longer be children on the street. I'm really hoping but ever the skeptics I feel like its almost impossible to do not with the current economy of the Philippines and the quality of life of many Filipinos. Still I'm hoping.

good if they really can contain those street children for really. but then there are just lots of street children who prefer to live in streets as they claimed that there are so much freedom on streets than in a place where they are to supposed to stay. every time the government round them up on streets and place them on a safe place, some would escape and would go back to the streets. these are kids who don't like house rules and who don't like responsibilities or to sit for hours and learn for free. my group does charity works of abroad-based friends to less-fortunate kids in far-flung and remote areas. once we planned to do a charity work for street children but a friend who works in red cross discouraged us from doing so. the point was to discourage poor kids to go to streets once they are aware that they are groups who give food and things for free. so how can we discourage children from going to streets and beg? by not giving anything otherwise, parents will encourage their children (am talking of the less-fortunate ones)from going and begging in streets as they are just lots of good souls around. so we are focusing instead in helping the less-fortunate children who go to school and are living in far-flung areas.

Yeah I saw one documentary about that. Children stay in the street because they are free to do what they want. Its really hard not to give them money but its true its better for them if were not gonna give them anything. Its better to give to charitable institution.

This is a good news to us Filipinos. It's such a disgrace in our country when foreigners see a lot of street children in asking for alms and even risking their lives just to ask money from the people in the walking in the streets or passengers in the jeepney. I really do hope this will really happen by 2011..

If a country couldn't take care of its children now, its like neglecting the future of this nation.

I am still hopeful this would happen, if they will accomplished it by the year 2011 that would be very good, if not I would still hope they will put their serious effort in giving those street kids a descent home and finally come the day that there are no more street children.

hi there! this is really great news! although i still doubt their skills to do this but knowing her purpose is clear and her plans were good i know it'll work out. so we just have to pray she will be able to fulfill this. this will really be possible if all of us Filipinos will do something about it. i mean to cooperate with her plan. i heard a lot of institutions and foundations now a days, so if we continue this good deed, and help the DSWD with their plan by helping the street children. before the year 2011 ends there will no street children. its really a good start for 2012 and for the Aquino administration and Philippines as well. happy mylotting!

I don't doubt Dinky Soliman's intentions though I hope she could get supports from all sectors to make this goal.

Oh come on! the recent demolition in EDSA was a failure because there was no adequate space for the relocation sites and that it was not yet fit for the inhabitants... the other issue is Population explosion, with the church on the brakes, I am not too confident about the reproductive health bill could get a footing on the issue..

Im not really sure if the RH bill is part of the plan to keep the children off the street but i guess if we're looking long term it is important.

wow thats a grate job.your goal will be achieved. There will be skeptics but we should not discourage about what they have said, if they said it is impossible u should ask why and after knowing that the necessary steps to be taken to over come that problem, and we have to prove over self

I would chalk that up to empty political promises. Government cannot eliminate street children or poor people.

This is something to be seen yet before we praise DSWD secretary Dinky Soliman. Though it is a good news for the Filipino society to get rid of street children. As children they should be in school learning and playing. They should not be on the streets where they can be part of crimes and stuff like that.

im not expecting that by 2011, there are no street children. but i am hoping that they will lessen or minimize the number of street children all over the philippines. its not that easy to control it. lets just hope, that they will focus of street children's welfare. but we should expect not to see street children by 2014. hehe

I really doubt it. If there goal is to remove the street children by 2011 it won't be possible if they won't remove the parents of these street children from the streets. They will just keep on producing children until they are properly informed. 2011 is just to idealistic and DSWD has no facilities to house these children.

There's just too many irresponsible parents. They should really be put taught a lesson or two.

isn't that too good to be true? it's really so confident of her. but it's good that she has a goal like that. lots of politicians are so focused about other issues seeming to neglect or forget the kids on street. some kids at street begging for money have disgraceful attitudes and i don't wanna see them like that. maybe when they grow in DSWD, they'll grow into better persons. though i doubt that this will be possible, i want this to come true. broken promises are not new in our government, anyway.

Hehehehehe. Another unbelievable statement brought to you by DSWD. Let's face the reality, Philippines is highly corrupt from the highest position to the lowest level. If you will open wide your eyes, this problem seems not to be solved unless the government will truly and seriously find ways to stop corruption. Corruption is the one of the major reason why the country is poor. No one will seriously invest because noe one will trust. Stop corruption, stop pork barrel, stop project commission, stop promoting anti life law. Back to basics, we must learn the basics.

I'm giving it benefit of the doubt. You're right though unless massive corruption is stopped I doubt if this country will prosper.

Wow. I hope Sec. Soliman is not setting herself up for failure. As much as I would like to never see anymore children on the streets, I don't think this can be done in just a year, much less in an under a year. I also hope that the DSWD is not just aiming for a quick fix to this problem. These children need rehabilitation and that alone takes time. Otherwise, they would just go back to the streets as soon as they see a chance.

Wow! I hope that it will come true. with the economic condition right now. The church opposing birth control. The joblessness of people. Squatters in urban areas. Maybe someday it will come true but not in 2011. What is she a magician? But good for her because she plans on something that will help the country. But maybe she should focus more on goals that are achievable within a spa of 1 year.
