Flu shot - Influenza injection for prevention

Every year at this time I take my family to the flu clinic at my doctor's office. This I think is the best thing you can do for your family in flu season. I have found that since we started getting our flu shots we do not get as many illnesses dring flu season and when we do, we don't get that sick and it passes quickly. Yes, it is a guess what vaccines to give, so some years they protect for the wrong strains but more times than not they get it right and we have an easier flu season. We have done both, for years we didn't bother with the flu shots but now we get them every year and I see a big difference in my family's health during flu seasons. I have heard as well, that some people claim that they get sick from the flu shot and on the rare occassion I have felt not so great after recieving my shot. But I think the overall result is well worth it. Do you get the flu shots every year? What have some of your experiences been? Do you find it helps, or makes no difference?

My boyfriend and I are going to our nearby pharmacy this week to get the flu shot at Walgreen's actually. We were both sticken with so many flu and colds last year that this year we want to do what ever it takes to prevent them. As it became a back and forth getting sick and there were weeks when we were both sick at the same time. It was one miserable winter for the both of us. I understand that if we have even the slightest bit of signs of a cold we are not suppose to have the vaccination at that time as it bring out the cold stronger. I do have to say several years ago I did get vaccinated and each time there after I immediately felt a cold day or two later. Howe-ever I did not get sick anytime during the entire winter. I also know that if you are allergic to eggs a flu shot is not allowed as well.

Yes, you will not regret it. I think its the best thing you can do to prevent sickness during the flu season. You may still catch a cold or flu that is going around but if you do you will find that it runs its course quicker and you don't get as sick as you usally would.

I've been lucky that I haven't had the flu in years, but I have gotten the shots almost every year for the last 10 or 12

Yes, I think they are the best thing that's happened for health promotion. I use to get sick every year until I started getting the shots.

I must say that i am going to get the flu jab,so are my two younger sons.Prevention is easier than a cure.I tend to keep indoors as much as i can in the winter, aswell as keep as warm as i can as i suffer with bad circulation.I have a very low imune problem and i have to take meds,so if people are ill they have to stay away from me and my house.Every winter there are loads of people getting the winter flu, where as i think that sometimes they could have been having a flu jab to stop them from getting it.

Yes, I understand that as my hubby is a cancer patient and his immune system seems to always be depleted. We have come acrooss individuals who have come to our home bringing small children who were sick with the flu at the time, some people jst don't nderstand or care. We ask our friends and family to stay away when sick and most do but there is always an oddball in the crowd. Do you buy those lysol wipes (thereare other types as well)? I love those at flu time. I clean all table and counter surfaces, door knobs and basically anywhere which is normally touched by hands. I have children and they have friends and some don't think, they cover their mouths when they sneeze but then don't wash their hands. Every bit helps, I think !

or you can just get vitamin c, exercise and eat vegetables and that would be enough to strengthen your immune system. i mean sure you can get a vaccine and that would be good but if you want things to be cheap ^^

Although Vitamin C is always good for you especially at Flu season, it is not enough for someone with a compromised immune system. Someone with a compromised immune system could be hospitalized over a simple flu virus which is a much more costly adventure than the flu shots and it can delay treatments and/or cause complications for cancer patients. Thanks for your response.
