Is there any retirement age after all?

We have slog all our lives for the past few decades til we finally hit our 50s or 60s in the future, saving up lots of money, thinking it's going to be enough for retirement days til the day we passed away. What seems to be enough now, might not be so in the future because of rising cost of standard of living.. By then, 300k wil only be enough to last us 6-8 years instead of the predicted 10 or more years that we wished for. When money is running out, what do we do then? Head back to the workforce again to earn our living again? If so, when's the actual time for retirement? Will we enjoy life after all?

I don't think that there is a retirement are in life. As long as you free young and you act on it your young. Maybe not physically be emotionally, in spirit and heart.

For those that don't even have a 401K or similar type of retirement income set aside could well be working until they drop. That is my opinion. It has already been quoted that when children today reach the age for Social Security, there will be no Social Security. It doesn't look good for medical insurance either. I don't care what side you are on, everybody eventually will pay. That is going to take a big piece out of peoples' pay check as well. In my opinion the only way that people are going to stay ahead of the ballgame is if they have what we've already heard of: "Multiple Streams of Income". Now how everybody is going to do that is another question.

I agree with all that u said. It's a fact and it's coming true. There's no way for things to slow down even if recession hits again. Because government will be asking its people to keep spending for economy to pick up. That's going to take a huge tow on people.

I think there's retirement age after all.. haha =D BUt that wont come easy for majority of us because we really need to scrimp and save throughout our working years to see us through our twilight years.. haha =D IF not, by saving 1/4 of our monthly earnings, is definitely not enough at all. IMagine how times had change from 40 years ago when 10cents is able to buy us one bowl of noodle? And 40 years from now, how much is a bowl of noodle is going to cost us? $5? $10??

50s and 60s are just the actual retirement age for people who works with government. But if you work on your own company or you work with private company and work from home lol :), there is no actual retirement age. That is why anyone who is working with government are provided with pension after their retirement. To enjoy life, it will really be just up to the individual because we enjoy life in a different way, money is yes a big matter in enjoying life, but there's surely always be a way :)

Yes, true. But our government here is pushing the retirement age up to 66years now. It used to be 55 a couple of years back, but now it's 66. I wonder by time we reach that age, how far up will it be pushed again? 70s? 80s?

It depends on the person if still like to work or not. To those persons that have no choice but to follow their assigned retirement age on their usual work and would already want to retire then, it is really difficult but they only should suffer a little more and wait until that time comes. It is so frustrating news to hear that retirement age would be prolonged now as you have said. My mother is also just waiting for her retirement age. I think she still love to work but I sometimes also think that maybe she is tired sometimes and would like to retire now. She has 4 years more to go and that is still a long time to think about it. She has many plans after her retirement and I know that it will come true coz I am going to help her in her dreams to settle down. She spoiled me when I was a child and I promise myself that I will spoil her when she gets old. I think when we retire, this could be a challenge in our life too. Without work, it could be boring. Most retirees are also enjoying themselves through putting up their own business. But you are probably right, it can be more enjoyable because you are already free!!!! =p

It really depends on each individual. However circumstances does not allow one the freedom to choose what they want to do. As much as we want to rest after decades of slogging hard, cost of living makes it impossible for one to fulfil it. U are filial and want to help out your parents, provided u have got a good job with high salary to provide for your family and parents. Don't forget, cost of living will keep increasing.
